Richaud Gittens done for season?

Per Brandon Garside before tipoff against Denver tonight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's ineligible to redshirt this season, as he's already logged minutes this year.

"Richaud Gittens re-injured his Jones Fracture in practice this week. No timetable for his return and no decision about redshirting."

If that is true, then I think he is done for the season and done for his career. He could get another year if we were to get more games than are on the schedule, but there would not be a scholarship for him next year anyway. I think this is career ending, unless he can come back by late February or March. It would be a stretch. :shocking:

I'm no doctor, but gotta wonder if they brought him back too early. Originally he wasn't supposed to be back until mid to late December. Feel terrible for the kid.

It's not unrealistic to think he could get a medical hardship exemption and play another year (assuming that's what he and Randy both want). When Damian Lillard broke his foot, he had already played 9 games, and Richaud is only at 6. That being said, athletics pulled some major strings to get that extra year for Dame. Not sure if they'd be willing to do it for Gittens.

IMO, he will play later this season. He will heal in 6 weeks and take a week or two to get back to where he can contribute. If he doesn't come back this season, I don't see how he could play next year. We don't have the scholarships available. There is another avenue available to players who finish their eligibility injured and have not yet graduated. I believe they can be on scholarship for up to a year, but they are not eligible to play and their grant does not count against the team. At least that is how it used to be. I don't see a way for him to play next year. Best thing for him and the team is to, somehow, get him back this year. We may really need him in March. :coffee:

Well...best case he is back in February. Worst case, done for the season. For him, I hope he can play. Sad way to see your career end.

Okay, so, since he is done I think Randy needs to make some serious lineup changes. You have three bigs who aren't injured: Dallas, Morris and Georgie (he wasn't on the bench last night). Use those guys to play the 4 and move Baker back to the three. He should be starting at that position anyway. John needs to come in for Senglin and Cannon. Ryan will be the third string at the 2 and relieve Baker at the 3. Use the bigs you have. Get both Dallas and Morris playing the 4 more and possibly burn the Englishmans redshirt. We need Dusty on the floor more! Anything to offset Senglin.

I definitely think it is time to reconsider our approach. The plan is not working. Dusty can't play against PFs that have a little bulk to them. That much is clear. Our team rebounding is poor. That much is clear. We are too soft. That is also clear.

I think we can count on more minutes for Jerrick and more minutes for Jordan. Beyond that, it would be nice if Ryan would get a fire in his gut and start playing tougher. Our shooting will surely be better, but you can't always count on that. I think we will have to throw some presses into the mix. :coffee:

getting a 5th year would not be a issue...however verbal commits has Weber at 14 scholarships this year and at a projected 15 next year without Rich...the limit is 13/

I totally agree! :+1: Also at this point More Harding and less Richardson is a good move also.
