Not much of a surprise to be honest. Don't know what it is, but he hasn't really been a standout this year.

Leading the team in tackels even though he has missed one game and he is going to break the all time tackles record. yes he is doing a terrible job???? He held a all defense meeting last week and it pumped up the defense in the last game and played the game with the flu, many players would have set out not Hamlin, he brings it week in and week out. It is difficult to here our own supporters to dog our own players when they lay it on the line every week.

Hold on there buttercup. NOBODY said that he is doing a terrible job. You need to pick that wedgie and choose a different side of the bed, because I never said anything about him doing a bad job.

All I said is he hasn't been a standout player this year. Which is true no matter how you spin it. His average 6.8 tackles per game is half that of the conference leader. Even his single game high of 13 doesn't surpass Nick Dzubnar and Chinedu Ahanonu AVERAGE tackles per game.

Whether or not this is attributed to his ankle injury is irrelevant to the Buck Buchanan list. It's the most dominant defensive players of 2013. And quite frankly, being durable is a part of being a dominant football player.

He's had a few struggles, but I think he's played his best two games over the last two weeks.

Actually, his best two games were MSU and Washington. Which he had 12 and 13 tackles, respectively. The last two he has recorded 7 in each.

Maybe in terms of number of tackles those games were better... But the middle of the field was a void in those two games. Both teams knocked us around like rag dolls. In the last two, we've kept the middle locked down tight.

I view this as a slap in the face to our program and to all our players. So if Ronnie gets a pick 6 or picks up a fumble and scores this weekend does he go back on the list? Obviously number of tackles are an important stat for linebackers but coaches measure defensive performance in ways beyond simply number of tackles.

Ronnie is a senior, he's a leader on and off the field and the east coast media bias gets us again. I was hopeful those days were over. We've won lots of national awards and our players earned each one, as did the program. I know Ronnie doesn't care, it's about winning the Big Sky and going from there but all of us fans should care about this display of disrespect. Maybe this fires up his teammates even more but I think most of them couldn't care less about the national media. They play for each other and for the coaches.

Uh, yes if he keeps it up. There have been players who have been excluded from the list until the end of the season. The fact is, until he plays like the most dominant defensive player in the nation, he isn't going to be considered the most dominant player in the nation.

Really? Lighten up. This is an EWU football forum. We've talked about the performance of the defensive line, we have talked about the performance of Vernon Adams, we have talked about the performance of Shaq Hill, and the list goes on. Ronnie Hamlin isn't immune to being talked about. Nowhere in the rules does it say "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!"

Maybe we should stop saying bad things about other teams and hold hands and sing koombaya and never say something controversial. Let's drop the lookalike thread, it isn't nice. And let's drop all speculation posts. We can only talk about statistics (only in a positive way, of course!)

Hamlin Rocks, but let's be realistic the award is given purely off statistical information. The numbers don't stack up to the other guys. Do I agree with taking names off the list? No, does it surprise me no.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vernon doesn't get pulled from the Payton Award list as well, not because his number aren't there, but because he has been injured.
If he is out for the 6 weeks that he could be then personally I don't think he should get the award.
Do I still think he is the best player in the FCS absolutely, but there is something to be said for missing 6 out of 12 games in season.
My guess if he comes back for the last 3 games then it is his for the taking. Anything less and we will have to wait till next year to crown him the next Walter Payton winner.

I wouldn't call it East Coast bias. Over the past ten years, eight of the Buchanan winners have come from the schools that currently make up the Big Sky.

And if you take the emotion out, it's not helpful that the D has given up 50+ points in three games and 30+ in two others.

Ok buttercup but if your going to talk stats at least take the time to research them so you can get them correct. Hamlin tackles a game are not what they have been the last couple years but he has been playing the whole year enjured. His tackles a game is 8.3

JC Sherrit was playing behind a D-line that were animals and he was able to take advantage of that. Ronnie is playing behind 1/2 true freshmen, and only a couple of upper classmen so his stats suffer. Not that his effort is any less but this is not an effort award it all about the stats.

This. National Awards are as much a team award as they are individual. JC had Renard, et al takingon blockers up front. BLM had Kauf, Herd, Edwards, and his brother to throw the ball to. It's all relative.

Hamlin hasn't looked quite the same as he did last year since he's been dealing with ankle all season. Still a great player and great rep for the team and University.

 When I checked Big Sky Conference statistics, they read as I stated. It's irrelevant anyway, as he still isn't close to a conference leader.

Look, I know Ronnie. He used to go to Kingston every morning to do homework. I even helped him with a few calculus problems. I know that he is a good man,a hard worker, and a leader. However, this is an award for defensive ends that live in the backfield, linebackers that shut down the running game, and secondaries that get interceptions. This year, Ronnie has no evidence to suggest he has been a shut down linebacker and thus it should not be surprising that he is no longer on the list.

To All,
Attended the past two practices, cold and Windy Tues, Raining and chilly Wed. Team looks good, even in the rain. Most of the walking injured are ready to go, namely Quicey Forte, Corey Mitchell, and I think Todd Raynes. Could be wrong on Todd. Team is leaving Friday via commercial. Going to be a long drive after arrival in Arizona. We have made the trip plenty of times, we will make it and do well. Game is on Roots TV, set my DVR this am. According to Roots game will start @ 12:30 p.m. our info states 12:05 p.m.
should be able to get more information after the game, Mariners have gone Fishing ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) , if you get my drift.   . Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Haven't heard much talk on here about Raynes, but he'll be a huge boost to the defense when he's ready to return. Very underrated player. Hopefully when he's back he can stay healthy!

To All,
Spoke to Kath on Thursday at Reece Court VB Game, women lost 3-0, she stated she hope the Women/Men BB Tickets will be in by Nov 9th, and anyone one at the VB Games could check with her if they want to pick their tickets up. We lost to a good team ISU, who are currently in 1st place in their league. Vic Wallace
