Roos Field Renovation

Apparently in South Dakota the state can fund athletic facilities. It has been my understanding that the Gateway project would need to be privately funded.

So what you are saying is we need someone to fund for more bleachers??????

This whole process is annoying! What is this year three or four?? I have lost track. Funny how the state can fund/assist with costs UW and WSU (which irritates me even more), but can't come up with funds for us.
Well here is hoping that if INslee raises gas taxes a dollar so some money will be coming our way . . . .ohhh wait it will go towards paying for extended sessions in Olympia . . . :twocents:

I seriously wish they would have just held off on the announcement until the funding was secure, but I do get the recruiting benefit of the announcement, but sooner what are the recruits going to think about it being said that it is going to get done??

Rant over . . I hope.

they announced the project in 2012, so they're still somewhat early in the process.

On one level I agree with you about just getting something permanent done on the east side. Increase capacity by a few thousand and forget about shooting for the moon.

But, on the other hand, if we get the Gateway as designed we make a significant and long term upgrade. I look at the Phase as an example. That was a huge upgrade and improvement that allowed EWU to transition to D-I. There were lots of doubters then, but I couldn't imagine where we would be if we had settled for something less.

"Recruiting tool" too expensive to be just a recruiting tool. The east side is a huge embarrassment with no quick fix in sight. All hopes are on the the gateway project but we're in 2018 before one brick goes up. IMO. And that's ----IF---- it gets funded.

Looking forward to the news, Vic.

To All,
With Seattle Hawks Running Back holding out, Demetrius Bronson is getting a lot of time working out. Saw him on C-6, at 11:20hrs p.m. last night he was seen in practice with the Hawks. He is wearing #30, his number he wore when he was at EWU. All of his runs were when he played for EWU. They interviewed him also. Here is hoping he makes the 53 man Roster. Vic Wallace

To All,
All of us that had high hopes for DJ Martin, we can forget about him. Spoke to some of our Players last Monday, they stated he is no longer a Player for us. Out of the three Props, the only one that made it is Keonte White DB. Heard they had problems in the Classrooms. A new Roster was printed yesterday, and DJ Martin is not on it. There numerous changes, will have to see once Practices start, which is Thursday @ 9 a.m., or should I say old practice field which will be on the Grass Field, behind the Tennis Courts. We will be there even if it is early in the A.M. Notice we do not have #71, which is now "RETIRED" Outstanding OL for Tenn. Titans (MICHAEL ROOS) Great individual and Player. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:    Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

To All,
As to the post of UW QB, I don't know who Miles is, but I hope everyone of you are correct for their games against us Sept 6th. Hope the game is televised, don't think I will be making the trip, 3 days after the game, Sept 9th, I will turn a young 80 years young, "yes" 80 years young. My not knowing the stadium, I am worried it could be very hard for my walking, even with a Handy Cap Permit. My only problem is with my knees, and thank "GOD" that is all. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

To All,
I hate being the bearer of bad news. The entry of DJ Martin not being available to play, I had to post, since so many was looking forward to his being part of the team. Will be thee in the a.m., to hopefully meet the young Players, and returning Players. I must check out our new comers. I know what we have as Players, and the Recruits could be great addition to our team. Is Aug 23rd here yet? ;) ;) ;) , not off very far now, approximately 3 weeks + :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Vic Wallace

I don't have season tickets as I work every Saturday except for rare occasions. The "best" tickets I could get for the SHSU game was on those east side bleachers. It may not have been as bad if I wasn't in the first row, but it seemed that the first five rows had a really hard time seeing the action over the visiting teams players heads, they were cramped, and the heat seemed to reflect off the metal turning a 75 degree day into a 90 degree experience. My wife gave up and hung out on the side of the bleachers in the shade and couldn't even see the game. It was not a very enjoyable game day experience. I hope we can do something to upgrade!

I think the gateway project needs to be rethought. I love the ambition and vision by the athletic department to want to build something as bad ass as the renderings we have seen so but we need to be realistic. We do not have the fan base/donor base to spare 60-70 million, yet.

I think we should aim smaller: tear out the track, move the field closer to the home side and build reasonable visitor side seating. Have a permanent capacity of 12,000-15,000. Build it so it can be expanded on when the time comes. The current visitor side scaffolding busch league bleachers are such an eye sore.

JMyoung,
I was wondering about that myself. The individual that told me that is very high in the chain of "The Gateway Project". W/O making excuses for him, I know how busy they were getting ready for the game, but something could have been announced. Sorry! Vic Wallace

Like everyone, I am so excited at the prospect of the Gateway Project getting built. Is there anyone close enough to the process to answer a finance question? Could the project be partially funded by a student fee? When my daughter was a freshman, the Student Recreation facility was built. This was funded, I believe, by a $65 per quarter student fee, which will continue for maybe 15 years or so. I'm not sure what the process was that led to the adoption of that fee, but it built a $26 million facility. I wonder how current and future students would feel about an additional student fee to build Gateway? Or if that is even a possibility?
