ROTC Cannon?

So I noticed the cannon wasn't at the SHSU game and I personally was a little bummed out. I figured it was because ESPN was there. But now I'm hearing some nasty rumors that they are getting rid of it due to funds, and the University/Athletics don't want to fork up any money to help keep that going. Anyone know for sure?

That would be highly disappointing. I figured the cannon wasn't booming because the ROTC kids were not back at school.

According to the ath. dept. they were surprised it was not there and hope to see it back.

Response from ROTC:

Sir,

Due to constraints beyond our programs control, we will not be providing the cannon for this year's football games. We don't have the ammo to fire, nor do we have the manning to support. Our cadre size has been reduced and we are in the midst of a significant personnel transition, so we simply don't have the people to do this.

If there is a particular game that you want us to be at, e.g. the military appreciation game/ playoffs, we should be able to do that.

IMO we are spending too much on Obamba-care so can not afford ROTC

Well email them back, tell them i volunteer as tribute to help man the cannon. I'm a professional drunk so if there is alcohol on my breath dont be alarmed.

So I got in contact with a buddy of mine, EWU Alum, and person who has many contacts through out the school. But We are going to be getting in contact with ROTC and see if we can put on some sort of a fund raiser to fund the cannon for the rest of the home games/wounded warrior project. I'll keep you guys updated as I find out. I really missed the cannon at the SHSU game :(

Oh the Cannon. I had forgotten about it when I came back to EWU in 2006 after 5 years gone and my deployment to Iraq. As I said I forgot about it and the first time it went off I was damn near on the ground. I'm not the only person I know who has done that. The funny thing is my MOS was Artillery in the Corps...the Cannon needs to be there.

Okay, I know we score a lot, but just to quantify the issue, what does a round cost? And how many personnel does it take to fire it?
