Round 1: Hornets v. Vikings (Missoula, MT)

Thoughts on this game? This is probably our best matchup anyways in the tourney, so a 3 seed might not hurt too bad. This past weekend was nothing but a massive circle jerk on eGriz, I would love to see them lose to Weber in the first round on their home court. Their coach is already telling their fans to come out and watch them "cut down the nets" this weekend.

What's DeCuire supposed to say to drum up fan support: "Hey, pay $90 to come out and watch us lose"??. C'mon, Kad. You're better than that. :ohno:

But I agree, your game against PSU may be the most favorable of the 3 top seeds. I do not like the idea of Montana playing Weber, and feel a first round upset could happen.

It doesn't strike you as arrogant and uncouth to pretty much tell folks that UM has the tourney won before it even begins? I think we all agree that UM is the favorite going in, but the Head Coach feeling the need to say it publicly is classless and shows his inexperience. Myself (along with the rest of the conference) would love to see the Griz taken down a peg. "The braggart's pompous tongue is most hated by Zeus!" ...

Didn't realize Montana's head coach is also tasked with the marketing department's job.

I guess I'll post my thoughts on how this plays out here...

RD 1

EWU 77
Idaho 70

SAC 64
PSU 61

NAU 78
UNC 75

UM 71
Weber 64

RD 2

EWU 80
SAC 69

UM 67
NAU 61

Championship

EWU 72
UM 70

I think whoever wins the second round game between Sac St and EWU will win the tournament. I personally don't think UM can beat both Weber and NAU, so I believe either Sac or EWU can and will beat either Weber or NAU in the championship game.

I like our draw with PSU. We controlled both games we played against them. The game at the Nest was close due to our missed FTs late; they also had both Tucker and Bamba playing. Tucker didn’t play in the game in Portland and the Hornets eventually pulled away in that one. Tucker has missed the last few weeks and if he can’t go Thursday then I like our chances.

Weber is a very talented team, for whatever reasons they just never really came together as a team. Senglin is still questionable with a broken jaw but per the Weber board he is their best ball handler. Bolomboy is a total stud inside and if their shooters get going they can be a dangerous team. If Weber gets in a groove they definitely have the talent to win the whole thing.

Pretty wide open tournament this year. Not much talent gap between the top seeds and the bottom seeds. I would not be surprised if there are multiple “upsets” this year.

I agree, it's anyone's game! But the Griz are certain they already have it won...

Who cares about them. Only thing that matters is for the Hornets to take care of PSU...then we’ll go from there.

I'm glad we got Portland St., but it is tough beating someone three times in a row. I hope Coach has us concentrating on pulling some rebounds. NAU had more offensive rebounds (21) than the Hornets did for the entire game on both ends (17) - pathetic. Hopefully, Coach has recruited someone who can rebound for next year. We beat NAU if we would even done a half-way decent job on the boards.

Well...I care about UM...insofar as the meltdown that will occur when they lose to Sac. Won't THAT be fun to watch?

No it doesn't. The only place he made the comment was on the Griz postgame radio show following the win over the Cats. The only people listening were Griz fans, who would expect him to say something like that, and they were the ONLY intended audience. The only reason you're even aware he said it is because it was posted on eGriz. There's a difference between telling, say, a newspaper reporter, "We're going to kick some ass", and telling your own fanbase that "we're going to be cutting down the nets next week, it'd be great if you were there".

Think about it this way: have you ever been to a pep rally where the coach said, "We're not going to win, so don't bother coming out". Uhhh, no.

I love all the match ups for thurs. If there will be one lame one maybe ewu/ui.

Griz Weber could be fun and there is no Tinkle. We beat them in ogden but it was early jan.

I'm so mad sac lost to suu and nau. I live in San jose.

I think all the games will be close. I think Idaho will keep it close against EWU, especially if they can hit their perimeter shots.

Is Senglin playing in the BSCT?

Vegas has SAC as 2 point favorites over PSU, and seems to imply Tucker will play. Weber is a 1.5 PTS dog according to one site, but it says Senglin is out. Bloom it can neutralize Bruenig, and if shots fall for Weber, things could be interesting.

Hornets and Vikings come in playing five hundred ball over the last month as both went 4 and 4; not exactly hot and the Hornets were only 1 and 4 on the road. Neither team should have an advantage over the other at altitude either. Vegas now has the Hornets at 2 1/2 point favorites.

According to this article,Tucker will not be playing in the Big Sky tournament. He is done for the year.

Under 8 to go in the first half and all tied up at 15 between the Hornets and Vikings. Garrity scored the first 7 points and hasn't scored since. The Vikings are really playing pressure 'D'. Tucker's not playing for PSU.

Under 4 to go and the Vikings lead 25 to 22 as they've hit a few three's. Mills has 3 fouls already; McKinney's got going now w/9. Winston has 10 for PSU. PSU has 7 offensive boards; our Achilles heel.

The Vikings take the lead at the half, 31 to 27. McKinney got a talkin' to by one of the refs; he's been complaining some today, but he has 11 and Garrity 10. Winston is looking good for PSU w/14. They are getting a lot of second shots since the Hornets are not rebounding again. That'll do us in if we don't correct it.
