Round 1: Hornets v. Vikings (Missoula, MT)

PSU leads 31-27 at the half. Hornets are getting killed on the boards again. Overall a very un-enthused game by the Hornets, looks like they don't even want to be there aside from Garrity and McKinney. PSU definitely wants this game more. I think the Hornet gas tank is on empty.

The guys do indeed look spent. McKinney is getting swatted after pump fakes no one is buying. Not looking good for the second half, but I'll keep the faith. Go Hornets!

Yeah, SDH, I left that part out, but I agree that PSU wants this more than we do; at least that's the way it looks. Katz needs to light a fire under these guys; I want to see us take on Eastern tomorrow. I think the Hornets have been tired at the end of the season the last few years under Katz, but it could also be the altitude. Sac St teams don't handle the altitude very well.

Hornets lead by two, 49 to 47, w/under 8 to go, but we look better this half on both ends of the floor. Could still go down to the final shot tho. McKinney has 19 and Garrity 16.

Hornets have the momemtum and the lead 56 to 50 w/under 4 to go. Demps finally got going and has all 9 of his points in the 2nd half. Garrity and McKinney have 20 and 19. Hopefully, the Hornets won't go cold like the last two losses in the last 3 minutes and give the game away.

Hornets lead 64 to 58 w/1:17 to go. Vikings had a chance to tie it at 57, but McKinney hit a 3 and Garrity stole the ball and got a lay up. Lookin' good right now if we can make our free throws.

Hornets advance w/a 70 to 60 win over Portland St. Demps had a very good 2nd half to finish w/13, hitting all of his free throws, I think. McKinney got 24 (13 in the 2nd half) and Garrity had 22 (12 in the 2nd half). Winston had a career high for PSU w/26. Bring on the Eagles..........

70-60 Hornet win! Alright!!! Demps stepped up HUGE in the 2nd half, and Garrity and McKinney kept doing their thing. Whenever Strings comes in and sees solid minutes good things happen, and we saw that today. Great to see this team rebound from last week. have to play WAAAYYY better to have a shot at EWU tomorrow. Let's enjoy this BSCT win folks.

One down, two to go, I agree about Strings. He still plays tentatively but good things happen. He boxes out and rebounds (novel idea) and plays decent defense. Mikh and Dylan of course carried the team until Cody got a few shots to fall in the second half. Cody played real well in the first half just couldn't get a shot to fall. We will need help from Mills, Tiffin, Hornsby and Barlett to beat EWU but I think we can do it. The altitude shouldn't be so bad for the rest of the tournament as we played last week at 5900 and 7000, then came home for only 3 days and back to altitude on Tuesday night. We may be aclimated by now. Hope so.

Hornetsports Recap: http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/201503125nwkm5

Strings just brings a much needed energy shift to the court when he comes in. Not really a scoring threat but he more than holds his own defensively and on the glass. Barlett played some good D off the bench today as well. Mills was in foul trouble all game but had some key boards late. Tiffin battled inside but Stuteville gave us nothing today.

At some point Stuteville will need to show up. We will need him and Tiffin to pound away at Jois inside and then the other cast of characters to do a good job crashing down on Jois. I think the key will be to force the ball out of his hands and into some perimeter shots from EWU…yeah that’s dangerous but I’d take my chances on low percentage perimeter shots rather than high percentage shots in the paint from Jois. It’s going to be a tough game tomorrow.
