Round 2: Sac State v. Eastern Washington

Thoughts? EWU is playing well so it's going to take a complete game to even have a chance in this one. I think we need to somehow take away Jois, which means Stuteville is going to have the best game of the season and not pull another no-show. That still leaves EWU's dangerous perimeter shooters and stud guard Harvey to try and contain.

It's certainly do-able.

FWIW, with our record, I think we're looking at a post-season tournament of SOME sort. Possibly even the NIT if we don't pull an upset or two. Same could be said for the girls....

I think we win this game. the guys looked like they had focus, and determination in game 1. I also think NAU knocks off Montana tonight

:cya:

As I said on the other thread, I think we have to run Harvey till he pukes, then run him some more. If we keep pressure on him relentlessly as we did at the Nest, his offense will suffer. He still has to try to defend one of our guards and that is a handful no matter which one they choose to put him on. Yesterday EWU needed everyone of Harvey's 42 pts. If they get nothing from there supporting cast today, we win easily. I think we can keep Harvey to his average (but make him scrap for every point) and if we do then we need to contain Jois. Those two are who can beat us. Bliznyuk and Miljkovic can't beat us alone. We will need to keep Brandon out of the lane, but that can be done. Mills, Hornsby and possibly Strings need to have their best defensive games. I can see us winning this game, especially on a neutral court. GO HORNETS!!!!!

The Eagles didn't have Jois when the Hornets beat them by 13 at the Hornets Nest and they didn't have Harvey when they beat us by 3 in Cheney. So, this will be the first time they have both of their best players against us, which will make it tougher.

I think Brandon gave us more trouble than Harvey did the first time altho Harvey scored 21, I think. I also think Demps can keep Harvey in check unless he really gets on a roll and everything goes in like their game yesterday. Harvey has a tendency to launch a few questionable shots too, so if we can frustrate him maybe he'll take some bad shots. I don't have a lot of faith in our bigs and worry about Jois and their other bigs versus ours. Tiffin has been better than Stuteville lately, so I'd like to see him in there more, if that's the case again today.

Eastern nearly blew us out up there as they had a 16 point lead in the 2nd half before we got it going. Hopefully, we don't get too far behind, if at all, but the Hornets have been able to make a run in every game in the Big Sky and have been in a lot of close games, so this team knows how to play with that kind of pressure. Go Hornets!

5 minutes in and I think this one is over. EWU opened up hitting pretty much everything and the Hornets look in bad shape.

Stuteville looks like he's playing in quicksand on both ends of the court. 11-0 run by EWU and down big already, we look like toast...

Stuteville saved his worst for last. Get Strings in there asap...

Tiffin has been doing more with less ... If that makes sense...

little early to fold up shop, we will get back in this
Well EWU is not taking advantage of our shooting slump so if we can just hang around we can crawl back into this one.

Venky Jois travels and never gets called for it....
At least I'm not the only one that noticed that.

Garrity is getting absolutely mugged out there. And EWU just isn't missing their 3's.

Parker Kelly has gotten under Garrity's skin and thrown his game off, but Kelly just ran over Garrity and the ref never saw it (or didn't call it). Their medium big guys are killing us; I was afraid of that.

49-34 at the half. Unless EWU completely falls apart we aren't coming back, they are just shooting the ball too well.

Eastern doesn't need Harvey the way the others are shooting; maybe we should give Harvey some shots and cover their guys that are making all the hoops. They have a good game plan and it's working great for them.
We've come back before, but it looks bleak now especially when EWU is shooting like Gonzaga.
