Running Backs Coach is Out

From Footballscoop.com,

Sacramento State: Per source, Sacramento State has bought out running backs coach Aaron Ingram's contract and he will not return to the staff.

What is going on with hornet football? Not so good news on top of the previous bad news. I don't like the timing of this. Hopefully Sears has someone in mind or lined up already.

Wasn't Ingram the recruiting coordinator? I'm thinking anyone having anything to do with the recruiting oversight and the issues spelled out in the letter will be (or has been) sent packing. Clean house and move on.

EDIT: Hornetsports still has his page up:
Aaron Ingram recently completed his seventh year as the running backs coach at Sacramento State. Ingram also served as the team's recruiting coordinator from 2011-14.

That's my suspicion too. I'm a bit thrown off by the fact that SSU bought-out his contract instead of firing him. Which also means, likely, he was unwilling to resign.

Good catch. Could also indicate there is no evidence the accusations are true. Assuming that is the case, that means a wrongful termination suit would have been filed had he been fired. Since it has been determined on these boards that Sperbeck is an evil person with terrible character ( ), I wonder why he didn’t take the same approach as Ingram.

Ingram was the last of Sperbeck's original group of coaches, so now we can move forward with a whole new regime and hopefully get the coaches that can move the program above mediocrity.

Ingram left when Sperbeck did is the word, hasn't been there for a month. Sure they were finishing legal stuff. I believe Kelley was a part of the orginal staff as a GA

Is this really a big deal? A new coach usually hires a completely new staff, anyway. (Though there may be a few holdovers, like Patrone for quite awhile.) All Sears had to do was hire a new RBs Coach and this dude would have been out of a job, just like any other HC change. No "wrongful termination" required.

Why the buy-out route then?

He must have had a contract through the year or something. Maybe he re-upped before the letter issue came about.

This whole thing is moot anyways. If Sears can’t prove he belongs here, we will probably see a complete new group of coaches before the 2015 season anyways. Hopefully we have a new AD before the 2015 season and he will probably want “his guy” heading up football. That “guy” will then fill out his coaching staff as he sees fit.

From what I have been hearing is that Ingram was basically suspended from the "get go"....whether it's a buy out or firing, it makes not to much difference. The cost to the school is basically the same and less chance of any repercussion.

Kelley will remain with the staff and has assumed the recruiting coordinator roles, not sure if he is taking over as RB coach or not...will check :)

Like I mention before, the outcome/fall out from the letter to the school, press and NCAA will not result in any major sanctions...if anything it will result in existing coaches taking a training with the NCAA reviewing rules and possibly a 1 scholarship reduction for a year or 2, which as scary is that is, means nothing to Sac State as they routinely offer out below the 63 allowed for 1-AA...usually around the 60-61 range.

Sac state used the accusations and letter to basically clean house and start anew...we all know that if Sperbeck and staff would have a few playoff appearances under his belt, the school would have took the hand slap and he would have remained at the helm.

I for one am excited that we are letting the coaches in place run the show...all new blood. Though I respect the Hornet coaches of the past, I believe it's time for people outside of the alumni to run the show...Petterson finally has full reins on the offense and we are basically revamping the D. I would like to see a Head Coach come in, but am OK with Sears being in charge for the season.

Cool story....a couple weeks ago the team was helping with a fundraising event and during the cleanup they were messing around and riding a mechanical bull...kids were having a blast...well they challenged Coach Sears and after a bit of egging on he jumped on and rode it...getting the kids really fired up...doesn't relate much to anything on the field, but it does show that the kids relate and believe in him and want to perform for him...so hoping it all goes well this season.

A lot of people are sort of writing off this season because of a coaching change...that makes me chuckle, these players understand the business aspect of it now and have dealt with a lot more adversity than this over the course of their college careers...this is just a speed bump.

Looking forward to the season!!!

I totally agree with this. I for one had enough conversations with Wanless to see his disappointment in what he called "getting over the hump". I could never tell what he really thought of Sperbeck throughout his tenure, but at the end it appeared to be not all warm and fuzzy. Having new coaches is what a lot of us wanted on this board after the last two seasons, and I believe like OG67, that the kids will step up and play for Sears. There is a tremendous amount of talent on this team and it just needs to show that talent every week, not now and then like in the past.

The word is we have a new RB coach. Sammy Lawanson for Arizona State

His Twitter account seems to confirm it. See his June 20th tweet.

ASU doesn't have a bio up for him. I found his bio from Tulsa. SJV product. Played LB at Fresno CC, then at SDSU.

Dir. of Football Ops for Sun Devils
Secondary coach for Golden Hurricane
RBs Coach for Cal Poly
LBs Coach SDSU
STs Asst. Coach SDSU
GA SDSU

From DBs Coach to DFO? If it hadn't been for what Angus did going to Nebraska (Assoc HC/OL Coach to GA), I'd call that something of a red flag. DFO is usually a bone you throw a recent grad trying to enter coaching....

At least the dude is versatile. Not many coaches can go on both sides of the ball like that.
