Rushing Attack in Trouble?

Arguably our most consistent player this season, Bryan Hilliard, looks like he's going to miss the rest of the season with a broken toe, according to the Bee...

My question is this....can we win the two remaining games without him? Who will replace him?

i was surprised by his low numbers yesterday -> that really stood out especially since Portland has struggled somewhat vs. the run. when did he come out of the game? i was watching BigSkyTv off and on, without the sound, so I didn't realize he was out.

that will hurt, although the backups are pretty decent? hillard had a great combination of physical running and elusiveness.

I was wondering why we didn't see more of him. Terrible luck for him to have. That said, McCowan is a pretty elusive back, that and combined with Fleming's running skills, we should be able to be fine. Makes Causeway that much more of a challenge. Well, get the rest Bryan and come out swinging next September.

He was also used sparingly in the NAU game so I am not too surprised he is injured. This just means we will see less power running plays and more spread option plays and more ridiculous end-arounds that lose 5 yards. The Hornets can also subsidize the running attack with bubble screens and RB screens. Like SHA said, we have the guys with the talent who should be able to step in and contribute. My real concern is Sperbeck going to his bag of tricks and getting too cute with the reverses, half back passes and other trick plays that typically have little success.

Sorry to hear about Byran's injury, I hope for a full and speedy recovery The radio crew mentioned that he was wearing some kind of boot at NAU. From Coach Sperbeck's comment it didn't seem like it was definite if he was out for the season or not. As I recall they had him in yesterday until the game was secure in the 4th.
Even without Bryan I think we have enough talent at running back with McCowan ,Croxdale, Tezanos-Pinto etc to be OK the rest of the way. We always have Wilkins if needed although he is doing a great job on defense.
Does anyone know what happened to Curtis Shaw? I understood he was out for a couple of games with a concussion in the WOU game but I never heard anything about him again and he was not mentioned on the medical redshirt list.

Rumors around campus are that he's out of the program...not keeping up with classes.

Here's an idea, next year if a UDub running back wants to transfer to Sac, let's pass...the last two haven't worked out too well.

That was my thinking after the Dailey experiment. No idea why it took a second try for the coaches to figure that one out.

Dang, I just thought we weren't hearing any word on him because he was going to take a medical RS...

Let's make a list of stud Hornet RBs that never panned out... lol

Tyrone Gross
Ryan Mole
Marshall RB transfer
Travon Jones
Terrance Dailey
Curtis Shaw

hahaha and the list goes on!

I think the big thing is that we HAVE HILLIARD. The best RB since Charles Roberts and we're lucky to have him around. I say hold him out of the ISU game, let him rest at home, and if he's good enough to give it a try, let him run wild on UC Dungpile. And hopefully we see him in a playoff game if we win out and others lose...

I hate to disabuse you Kadeezy but a broken toe is going to be more than two weeks of recovery. At least McCowan and Croxdale have played solid this year.

I heard it was a bone spur, is that the same as broken?

I guess for all effective purposes broken/spur, he is out.

Of course this could all be ploy to spring a 100% healthy Hilliard on UCFE when they think he is out. 8-)

No matter what happens, Hilliard has been a class act stud for us... I hope we get him back in the best shape of his life next year, rest him week 1 against (San Diego State? Can't remember...)... Then have him to pummel our first DI opponent (USDiego perhaps at home?)

Don't forget about Jake Croxdale guys. With him and McCowan, we'll be ok.

Ahhh, the voice of reason speaks. Crox and company filled in well about this same time last season when Dailey and McCowan both went down. Deja vu all over again. Good luck this week Hornets!

Nice to see you are back fickyfack! Just make sure your son eats his wheaties this week and we should be fine.

I wish! He's a close family friend, and one who always shows up ready.

For my fan(s) out there, I have been largely absent from the board this year, but saving up some zingers for the Causeway...Go Hornets! :D

Yeah, but I don't want to jinx this week's game by throwing out barbs about next weeks game.

I am gathering some research material this week on the usual stuff: animal husbandry, fat chicks, undersized boutique stadiums, etc...You know the drill. Hopefully ucfe loses this weekend to add to the drama next week. Go Hornets!

According to the Bee, Hilliard is out with a bone chip this week, but could return for the Causeway Classic.

Lidocaine and novicaine can do wonders for making a painful part of the body numb for about three hours. I'd love it if Hilliard tagged them for 150yds. Sucks he couldnt play against them last year and maybe this year.
