Sac beat the Beavers

They also get both us and the Griz at home. The are definitely in the mix, and it looks like Weber played ok at Wyoming.

Indeed.

I don't, however, want to draw too many conclusions from these FCS-FBS match-ups. Yes, MSU gave Utah a "decent" game, Sac State beat Pac-12 Oregon State, we almost beat UW, ditto for Weber against Wyoming. Montana got man-handled by Tennessee, but perhaps, so would the majority of teams in the Big Sky. It's hard to make an assessment on how teams will actually play in the Conference/OOC FCS based on these match-ups. We got doubled up last year by a Nevada team that finished at #15, but ended up winning a National Championship. Weber played two FBS opponents pretty tough last year, but had a sub-par season.

I do think we are going to light some teams up this year, but our game-planning against FCS opposition is going to be a lot different, I think. We didn't have much of a running game yesterday, but we knew we were going to have to spread UW out and pass the ball all over the field to have a shot to win. We are likely to see better secondaries in the Big Sky than what we saw from UW yesterday (Montana). We will run on FCS opposition, as most of the DL's we will face will not be as big as UW's, and the LB's will not be as fast to close on the ball. I still think our passing game is our strength on offense, but we will run the ball more from here on out.

We cannot afford to build this up as some sort of moral victory. And I don't think we will. We need to beat South Dakota next Saturday. I hope we'll put as much effort into preparing for them as we did with UW, because this is an absolute must-win game for us on the road.

This. I hate the concept of a moral victory, but that's effectively what it was yesterday. The catch is, only fans can appreciate moral victories. I know that internally, the term moral victory isn't even in the Eagles' vocabulary and they are already looking ahead to making USD pay for what happened against UW. Look for a focused, sharp, and revenge minded crew to take the field next weekend. Go Eags!
