Sac St Football in 2026-2027

Wood has said "FBS or bust' MULTIPLE times. I never said either of you said it. But, I thought you were following along well enough to know who has been saying it as a mantra and what "bust" might look like if we do not get to the FBS level soon.
Why would I want Wood or Marion to fail? I communicate with Coach Marion every week and support him. I have a legitimate concern with all the mistakes that have been made by this president that we could lose Marion and SAC could become the next Long Beach State, Fullerton State, Hayward State. SF State or Chico State. Realistic concern.
To put it mildly, I'm not some clown sitting on the outside guessing and hoping. Neither of you have any idea what's actually going on and just how tenuous/dire this situation has become.

I just looked it up and will admit I mixed up your name with comments by Heavyistheclown regarding Woods and BM. I usually have him on ignore and not sure why I took it off that setting.

But beyond that, my comments remain the same.

I absolutely hope you are correct that football isn't going anywhere...but at the sake of redundancy I can't help but be concerned with Wood continuing to say "or bust".
Would you be good if we landed in the MAC?
I would be. It gets us into FBS. Obviously the western leagues have a problem with FCS callups now since the Big West went belly up on football 25 years ago.

I mean the MAC has brought up Akron, Marshall, Buffalo, UMass amongst others. It’s a different mindset for those east of the Rockies 🤷🏻‍♂️

OSH, SHA: feed me the MAC. Feed me FBS. Then get to work!

It looks to me like the possibility of a MAC option is the only FBS situation that will keep us from finding out what bust means.
I prefer the MAC over C-USA. We can park there until the next realignment/NCAA Playoff agreement opens in 2031 and see what happens. 2031 is going to be media/conference mayhem. And I’d want to be the FBS team in a top 20 market at that time.

I’m going to call you out for being ill informed and posting stupid shit. There’s absolutely no reason for anyone to pay attention to your opinion because you provide no substance.

Geez can’t we all just get along on this crappy ancient fanpage lol. Shouldn’t we all be getting kicked of this page soon?

Here’s what ChatGPT says we should do:
You don’t need “real” web dev to make a solid fan page for a college team.

Here are 3 very simple paths, from super easy to still easy but more customizable:

1. Easiest: “Fan Hub” as a Facebook Group (or similar)

If your main goal is posts within a group, honestly the simplest “webpage” is a social group:

How to do it (Facebook example):

  1. Go to Groups → Create New Group.
  2. Name it something clear:
    • “[School] [Team] Fan Club”
    • “[Team] Diehards”
  3. Set Privacy:
    • Public if you want max reach.
    • Private if you want a tighter community.
  4. Add:
    • Cover photo (team logo, stadium shot, etc.).
    • Pinned post that explains:
      • What the group is about
      • Rules (no racism, respect players, no doxxing, etc.)
      • Where to find key info (schedule thread, ticket swaps, etc.)
Pros:

  • Zero coding
  • People can comment, post, share clips
  • Easy moderation
Good if: You just want a place where fans can post takes, memes, and game reactions without having to actually build a site.

2. Simple Fan Webpage: Google Sites (free, fast)

If you want an actual webpage (like a simple mini-site) that you control:

Tool: [Google Sites] (free with a Google account)

Steps:

  1. Go to sites.google.com → “Blank” (or use a template).
  2. Add sections like:
    • Home – short intro + big team photo
    • Schedule & Results
    • Links – official team site, ticketing, streams, X accounts, etc.
    • Fan Zone – embed your Facebook Group, X feed, or Instagram hashtag.
  3. Use the drag-and-drop editor to:
    • Insert pictures, logos
    • Embed YouTube highlights
    • Add buttons like “Join our Group Chat”
Share the link in your fan group, on X, etc.

Pros:

  • Looks like a real website
  • No coding needed
  • Great “hub” you can link everywhere
Good if: You want one link to send people that explains “who we are, what this fan group is, where to follow.”

3. “Clean One-Pager”: Carrd or Notion

If you want it to look a bit more modern and minimal:

Option A: Carrd

  • Go to carrd.co
  • Pick a free one-page template.
  • Add:
    • Team name & logo
    • “About the Fan Group”
    • Game day watch info
    • Links to social accounts / group chats

Option B: Notion Page

  • Create a Notion page like:
    • “Sac State Hornets Fan Hub” (or your team)
  • Add sections:
    • Weekly opponent
    • Depth charts / storylines
    • Links to highlight videos
  • Use Share → Publish to web and share that URL.
Pros:

  • Very quick to edit
  • Great for organized info (schedules, stats, links)

Recommended combo (if you want both)

If you want this to be smooth and low-maintenance:

  • Primary community: Facebook Group / Discord / WhatsApp Community for live conversation.
  • Simple hub webpage: Google Site or Carrd that:
    • Explains the group
    • Shows schedule & key links
    • Points people to the group for joining the conversation

I take a week away from this place to entertain friends and family over the holiday and this is what I come back to? Folks need to get a grip, now read my bloviated opinions below and agree with them.

Lots of comments I agree with, and yes there should be some concern about our current situation but I think a lot of people are looking at our current situation through the traditional college football lense and not the ever changing landscape that CFB currently entails.

Regarding "or bust", that clearly means no more football...or at least not investing in it like we have been in the recent decade. That said, I think we were on that trajectory already given the "JV status" the CFB fans in this region view FCS. The limited increase in Hornet FB interest during and immediately on the heels of our three-peat from the local CFB fans was the canary in the coal mine. I don't view staying put as an all sports member of the BSC as a viable long term solution in the current CFB environment. As much as it sucks to admit it, people just don't care about FCS/BSC football to the extent that continued/increased investment into the football program (or the heavy travel Oly sports in the BSC) is worthwhile. I think Dr. Wood/Orr saw and understand this and pushed forward with changes because being a large metro university wallowing away in FCS for the sake of just having football is a waste of time and resources.

Will football actually go away? Maybe, maybe not. SHA has strong points about the earmarked monies for athletics that were just codified so there will always be a certain amount of resources available for athletics. The existence of a football program at the CA public universities was always at the behest of the administration. It takes one anti-athletics President and Hornet football is gone. That has always been the case as evident by those bitch-made CSU's and UC's that dropped football back in the early 90's and it still holds true today.

We'll see if anything comes of these MAC discussions but I'm not holding my breath. That said, the most concerning aspect of our situation is the '26 schedule. With that in mind, the UAC just lost the Utah schools to the BSC and are at 7 football playing members. That equates to only 6 UAC games. I would think a scheduling agreement can't be worked out with that conference as they'll each need to find some games to fill out their schedule.

If we are going to remain in FCS in the long term then I think we'll get a BSC FB only agreement at some point. As much vitriol as the online BSC fans threw at us due to this move, deep down they all know they need games in CA for recruiting. We'll always hold that trump card which is why there will be a spot for us in the BSC if the FBS push formally dies for good. If the end result of this debacle is FB only BSC and Oly's in the BW then that's an improvement over our full BSC situation.

Does Coach Marion bail? Maybe, maybe not. As OSH mentioned, Dr. Wood didn't deliver on any of the FBS and stadium plans so I agree that he is looking for outs. However Coach Marion doesn't come across as someone who will take a smaller bag just for the sake of being in a place with more certainty. So until someone comes at him with a FBS coordinator or FBS HC job that will pay more, at the end of the day he's still a D1 HC making a good sized paycheck here at Sac. IMO, Coach Marion's biggest commodity is on the recruiting trail so maybe a top program works something out to bring him on board with his recruits in tow. We'll see how this plays out but a lot of the "top" coaches in the headlines are staying put so there looks to be less movement on the coaching carousel as I initially envisioned.

FBS or not, the biggest need for Hornet football is a new stadium and not getting that done will be the biggest fail by Dr. Wood in this whole ordeal. I have no idea where it currently stands but the radio silence on this issue can't be good. Personally, I think all the other concerns and uncertainty surrounding Hornet football fall into place if Dr. Wood can deliver on a new stadium.

did you really think that this jump in Football was going to be a walk in the park? It takes risk especially on a csu budget. No doubt President Wood’s lack of experience definitely showed, he made the BM hire and he really wanted it to work. A couple plays go differently and hornets would be hosting a playoff game this weekend and could have gone on a run into 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs, then the argument is a lot different. That’s the risk but don’t worry it’s easy to stay more like Stanislaus state rather than push to be more like Fresno/San Diego state.
Agree we needed to take risks on big names coaches & staff. Getting FBS status will make it all worth the stress we have now wondering “what’s next”.

I appreciate him having the balls to step up for SAC ST athletics. The Big West is a solid move for our programs. Good Work.

I’ve Ben watching M&W BB now in Hornet pavilion. To support our program and I’ve found our BB programs to play competitively w exception to ucla game. Entertaining BB.

Everybody will be happy once we get FBS status. Then this will all be worthwhile.

If this comment is in 1995 before the student vote to save football, I’d agree with you. Also, if it was before the alternative consultation process earlier this year that raised the fees even more, I’d agree with you.

The fact is…with all the money earmarked by the students, football isn’t going anywhere. And I’m sure (even though we’d have to pay a pretty penny), the Big Sky is always a fallback. Hell they took SUU back! And they are in a worse situation then we are.
And… The MCFC football only in worse case scenario I’m sure would think it’s awesome to get a CA team as well in worst case scenario.

But yes. Ton of money dedicated to football.
MAC / CUSA for the next 4-5 yrs is fine with me!
Everybody wins. We get FBS they get CA recruiting and New Time slot.
