Welcome!
There are other threads that discuss this in more detail, here is my short take.
1. Currently no available FBS conference opening. Suicide to go independent. West Coast FBS very limited compared to East/Midwest options.
2. FCS is having its marquee programs move to FBS. Soon FCS will be quasi-religious, directional teacher or liberal art colleges with enrollments sub 10,000 students.
3. If city/county/school continue to support at 15,000+ attendance at games, it makes sense.
4. Already have 2nd highest BSC highest athletic budget, Title IX compliant and offer 21 varsity sports, five more sports than required 14/16 for FBS.
Big unknowns:
1. Visionary President retiring in July.
2. Facilities, pedestrian at FCS, laughable at FBS.
3. Taylor being poached by bigger programs, next hire as successful?
4. Needs to be grass-roots ascension, not because of one/two people's success.
5. FBS G5 is actually the old upper echelon of FBS, does this provide more NCAA money at G5 under current ESPN/NCAA contract? Contract set to be renegotiated in 2024.
Fun to fantasize, but no real traction that I am aware of.
