Wow...LOTS OF INTEREST HERE! I'm guessing we are all in total awe of the new motion offense! You guys know, the one where there is no motion, a lot of standing around watching, and chucking 3's. Maybe that is what Coach should call it, the new stand around and chuck up 3's offense. Oh yes, and watching Duft yell and move his arms a lot. BY the way, I'm still waiting for Duft, our bigs coach, to actually teach Braxton, our starting center for the past 3 seasons, how to fake or do an up and under.

Okay, so, I use to love going to the Dee. I marked games on my calendar the day the schedule came out. Now, not so much. I really thought about not going yesterday. It just isn't fun, it really feels like a task. The Rahe offense is one dimensional and ball hoggish. The atmosphere isn't collegiate but wannabe big time (reminds me of a Stars game, but a lot worse), and finally, I really hate Jake. He's a good guy and all, but I hate all the promos and his voice. During a 30 second time out, that is a perfect time for a college band to play something. But, nope, we don't have one, instead we can count on Jake screaming out the same idiotic lines he has been screaming out for the past 5+ (I've lost count, they all seem like the others now) seasons. It was unique season 1, it was neat the next season. NOW?!? It has become outright annoying. Oh, and don't get me started with the mess that is the parking lot. I know there are a lot of campus police, do they not think it is important to provide traffic control anymore?

Okay, cupcake man, this is a university. Not the Jazz, they fired you. At a university it is important to involve students, also, it is cheaper. You don't have to pay Jake. Oh, wait, this is the easier way of doing things. That's right, you are like a river. Taking the easiest path and doing the least work possible. The theme of the athletics department. Just do enough. #justenoughweber #dowhatiseasiest

Final thought...and I've mentioned this to the AD in the past, but a fans forum (agreed not the most exciting of venues for a university administrator) is the pulse for a teams interest level. If there is an active, vibrant, and involved forum, there is a lot of interest. The lack of interest this week is not a good sign. Forum members are the ones who buy season tickets, who join department clubs, make donations, and really try to get others involved and interested. If there is no interest on a forum, there isn't interest in a team. Our fan base is shallow. TO grow a fan base, generate lasting revenue, and build a budget, you need excited and interested fans. Your foundation are those fans who take the time to participate on a fans board. Yes, at times he gets slaughtered on here, but he needs to realize that the more people talking on this forum, the more interest his money making programs are generating.

I understand your frustration. I, too, don't love the loud promotions, but that isn't why I go to the games. The game itself was very good. With a healthy team, Sac is a little better than I thought they would be. I thought that Sac was doing a really good job of defending Zack. He tried the up and under move a few times, but Sac had it defended well. This may sound strange, he scored 29, but I thought they did a good job defending Jerrick for most of the night. I thought we played good D for most of the game. Sac made some really tough shots.

I'm really liking the emergence of Kozak as an offensive threat and his defense has been really good. Chapman made too many TOs but played his tail off and had one of his better games.

We didn't play our best game, but we are showing signs that the best is ahead of us. :coffee:

I think what he is getting at Olds is we do have a good team, at times, with some fun players to watch but people are still losing interest.
The fan base see's the lack of enthusiasm in the athletic department which brings on a "if they dont care, why should I" attitude.
To me its not "just weber" but its hard to build my excitement when it seems the people who actually run the show dont care.. just my two :twocents:

I attended the game last night (someone gave me a ticket). In regards to atmosphere, there are two things that I really miss: the band, and a good student section. It's college basketball. Quit trying to make it a professional basketball atmosphere.

Instead of having the loud guy do all the promos at the games, why not have him out in the community doing promotions all week long. He could do the Newgate one day, the Junction another, Washington Blvd, Bell Tower, special events, that sort of thing. He could be bringing new blood into the Dee, promoting our sponsors, and lessening the amount of promotions thrown into the stands. If he is under contract, let's get something more out of him. His value at the games is minimal. There may be more value out in the community. :coffee:

I totally agree 02. :thumb: :thumb:

It was nice to see Chapman finish as strong as he did last night, Imagine if he could start off fast. I see the potential he has, just wish it would surface already.

Loved to watch Chapman's break through night. His TOs are still a concern, but he really showed up finally. They need to post him more as his quickness on the block is hard to handle.

Kudos to Sac State. They had a nice inside/outside game and made us really dig in defensively -- Kozak was a stud defensively. I always think that Katz gets the very most from his players.

I ended up confused at the end as I was buckling in for a big battle in a 65-62 game with four minutes to go -- and very suddenly it was a 80-64 final. Chapman and Harding just took over.

I'm really looking forward to Saturday night's game!

(I tried to post earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. If somehow it shows up -- apologies for the repetitiveness!)

I was going to go last night, but around 6:00, I just was not feeling it. I watched on Big Sky TV and it was actually refreshing listening to our radio guys and watching instead of slogging though the game in person. There didn't look like many people were there. I'm glad we won. We showed flashes of greatness. I will be there tomorrow night, but like Tal and others, there are many things that frustrate and bother me with Weber Hoops. Here is my list.

1. Time Out Guy. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. I want to bring ear plugs for time outs so I don't have to listen to him. I'm sure he is a good guy and tries hard, but if I have to hear him say "pipping hot pizza again," I might murder someone. He is not pleasant to listen too and the time out activities are dumb and I don't care. Just have Waldo break dance every time out instead.
2. I might get some crap for this one, but it has bothered me all year. Guy dancers. I hate it. I don't think its appropriate to have guys on the dance team. Cheer squad yes. They are awesome, but seeing guys dance with the girls is gross. I'm sorry, but I know I'm not the only one that feels the same. Dancers should be girls. You don't see guy Jazz dancers or guy dancers on any other squad that I have ever seen. UGHH. Why only Weber State? GROSS!!!!
3. No band!!!! Part of a fun college basketball game is having the band play songs. Especially the fight song. Its pathetic we have not had one all year. If we had a band, we might not have to listen to our annoying time out guy as much.
4. How the game is officiated. This is not the teams fault. I hate how college basketball in general is officiated. Its dumb. A player will barely touch someone and its a foul. If a player flinches when setting a screen, its a foul. No continuation. 2 of the traveling calls on Chapman last night were not travels. ETC..... Even though I really don't follow the NBA, I appreciate how the NBA is officiated. Its free flowing and the players get to play. I wish college was the same. Why can't they do the same? It sure would be more fun to watch then watching the officials blow their whistles every 10 seconds over ticky tacky calls.

Go WEBER!!

I told my wife the same thing when i saw them. Just let the women have their own thing!!

That doesn't necessarily keep me away though. I guess the only thing keeping me away is its no longer a priority. I used to plan my schedule around getting to game. Now if I have time, ill go.

BTW we have played some good second half games lately..

wazzu,
calm your weak arse down. we need an all mens spirit squad to get more fans out.

but ya no band sounds really lame i dont understand why not. that is my fav part of college hoops in general are the bands. when i went to the pac12 title game in football i chose my tkts based on the location of usc's band.

hearing the hey song and mancini's peter gunn are some of my best memories going to the dee since jr high.

The band has always been one of my favorite things to. Why not have a band? Uh, hello, last I checked Weber State Basketball is part of a university. Where the hell is the band?

I'm so tired of years of the WSU basketball/athletic administration making a life-long, can't miss product a uninteresting, somewhat annoying, "also happening" event that I'm finding it much more easy to miss than I thought possible. I tired long ago of WSU athletics and the BSC not even offering the courtesy of a response to concerns, suggestions, and critiques. I still shake my head at the ridiculous sponsorship experience a neighbor tried with the athletic department. I can't believe this business has no marketing or sound business sense with a product in decline of customer interest.

So, the male dancer(s) (I thought I saw a 2nd one the last time I attended a game, earlier in the season) is not the reason for my families massive decline in interest; however, it does not add any appeal whatsoever to watching the dance team perform or overall enjoyment of the event. In fact, our family has gotten to "enjoy" the one male dancer for years now since he danced at my kid's high school (Northridge). We weren't fans of coed dance teams all along, but it still has no effect on our overall interest in WSU bball.

I have season tickets, and really regret buying them. I will not be buying them next year. I love WSU, but the fact remains that I have lost near total interest in WSU basketball. It begins with Rahe, and I really need new blood in the program in order for me to attend. It is not fun for me anymore. The promos, SATOG, coaching, and opponents (lack thereof) , has driven my levels so low. I think the football season really changed how I view bball. WSU bball is like church. Once you begin to miss a couple games, its hard to go back. I have found that life still goes on regardless of WSU bball. For all these years I have griped about lack of crowds, but looking at it from my new stand view, its easy to see why people do not attend. Games are not fun, our conference is not fun, I can watch from home or anywhere for that matter, games are not important anymore, etc. I remember as a kid anticipating road games to listen to every word on the radio, and know its not special anymore. Rahe is driving the fan base into the ground. Until things are fun, even loyal fans will begin to question why they are going to games. Tal is right, going to the Dee seems like a chore, and that sucks.

Then stop going to games, stop watching them on the computer, stop following the team altogether.

You wont be missed.

My lack of posting isnt due to lack of interest. Its because coming on this fan forum over the last few years and reading crap like this post and several others has become the real chore. I love Weber hoops, always will. Going to the Dee has never felt like a chore to me. Just like Stewart Stadium was never a chore when the football team was finishing 2-9, I still went to those games to. I dont need to watch Weber play Gonzaga every week to get excited about Weber hoops.

I despise SATOG just as much as the next guy but to not go to a game just because you didnt want to hear him talk is pathetic.

To those who say they're going to stop going to games for these petty reasons I say good riddance.

As for me I plan on going to the game tomorrow night and cheering on both the basketball and football teams. Because they both deserve it.

I don't get the fan who can go to a game and watch Harding play and not find it awesomely enjoyable. That kid is a joy to watch.

I just love college basketball. I didn't grow up a Weber State fan, but have developed a real love for them over the past 18 years since I bought my first season tickets. I know we all have criteria that we judge Rahe over, but (and maybe I'm not close enough to campus to know) his players have never embarrassed me. In fact, I'm often very proud of the really good young men they turn out to be. Lillard is such an outstanding man and a rare voice of sensibility in a league whose players have sent me over the fan edge to the point I don't pay any attention at all. I put huge stock in integrity. Our program has it. This university has it.

I think there is a certain kind of kid that ends up coming to Weber -- the kind of kid I can really pull for. The recent signings of Kupsas and Barnes being a good example as they both seem like such thoughtful young men. They might not be the greatest players in the country, but I can guarantee you that they will play hard and play with heart and develop their games while I watch their careers. And I know they will actually be scholar-athletes because Randy expects that from them. And I will have my season tickets and watch. Scheduling, I hope it gets better, but I think the admin knows it needs to improve. I'm willing to see what happens.

Finally, tonight is going to be really fun. I'm pretty dang excited! Hope you all come!

People express dissatisfaction because they care. On the athletic side, it's important to hear what fans say. On the fan side, it's important we say it, but still be positive about the overall direction of the program.

Montana and Weber State have had the most success in the BSC in the past 12 years (Randy Rahe's tenure). None of the Big Sky schools get top 100 kids, so it takes a lot of recruiting and coaching to stay on top, so both programs are doing something right. I think Randy Rahe is one of the best coaches, if not THE best, in the state to maintain this success over 12 years. In the recruiting world, Weber is a mid- to low-major program, so to continue to get great talent and improve the guys while there, is a really big deal. For example, Barnes, Kupsas, Fuller, and Johnson are studs, and very highly regarded. I know that each year we have new guys coming in who are supposed to change the program, but I really believe that of these four, all will be solid, and at least one or two will be stars in the BSC and beyond. Recruiting is an inexact science, so let's all remember that Damian Lillard was a "2-star", Jeremy Senglin was a 2-star and not in the top 100, while Nick Emery was rated 4 stars and #45 nationally. I could go on, but the fact remains that many really amazing players get overlooked by the rating services for a million reasons. So let's not dismiss the guys who are recruited to Weber because they're only a 2 or 3 star rated by ESPN or 247 or Rivals. No one can measure a kid's heart and desire. Randy Rahe and staff do a great job of studying these guys out and finding out who will be successful.

Here's another prediction: Randy Rahe has never beaten BYU and that seems to be a measuring stick for the program, at least in the state of Utah. It will happen in the next two years. That's how much I believe in these coaches and the players coming in.

DeeScott,

Hope you are right about beating BYU. Seems like Dave Rose has our number.

I love coach Rahe and the program. Wish we could get to the NCAA's AND get out of the first round.
