Sac State at NAU Oct. 4

Alright, its now time to turn our attention to Northern Arizona, who was Coach Sperbeck's first win last year with a 38-9 whooping at Hornet Stadium. NAU in their past three games have held teams to negative rushing yards, which is damn impressive. The Hornets have traditionally played well in Flagstaff, with 3 wins in the past 5 trips to Walkup Skydome.

Discuss...........

NAU fans seem to think that that negative rushing stat will continue. That and the idea of revenge seals their fantasy of an NAU win being a done deal.

I don't think so. We have a history of winning in the Skydome. THAT will continue.

Smith's injury and NAU's defense are going to make this a tough one. I predict a close loss, unfortunately. I am very willing to be wrong.

based on who NAU played the last 3 games, this negative rushing stat is meaningless, almost as meaningless as their latest ranking...

we've got hilliard, who proved that he can muscle out yards when there is no hole. he had a good 4th quarter last week and proved that his shoulder is healed. while wilkins is out, croxdale can fill in as needed.

as for our qb's, they've stepped up before, and will do it again. i think what the team has proved so far this season is that when the starters have been hurt, all of the backups have stepped up and done their job, and there is no reason to believe differently this week. keep the faith.
SAC - 31
NAU - 24

go hornets!

I am not predicting this one. Would be nice to win, but regardless, NAU is holding opponents to negative rushing yards.

What injury does Smith have, the old ankle sprain or is it new?

UPDATE: I just saw Smith had surgery and is out.

NAU 38
Sac 24

I dont think that they'll hold the team or Hilliard under 100 yards, "HILLIARD UP THE MIDDLE!"

While I'm all for Hilliard up the middle, Smith being out changes the outcome of this game. I thought it would be close before, but now I'm worried. I'd love to be wrong...

But,

NAU 34

SAC 21

Awwwww... Why is everyone counting out Sac State and Duncan already? First of all, we are not going to get held to negative rushing yards by default because I'm sure Sperbeck won't come out airing the ball until he feels Duncan is comfortable. Finally, we will definitely beat them in the passing game. I say it will be another shoot out with us coming out on top.

CSUS- 34 NAU 31

**3 passing TDs from Duncan (I'm reaching, but I'm a believer in this guy!)

I did some research on the much heralded run defense of NAU:

The last 3 teams NAU played have a combined season average of a whopping 63 rushing yards/game
(NMHU 56, SUU 65, NCU 67)...So I don't put much faith in this "doomsday defense" scenario.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have averaged 182 rushing yards/game, even with the "musical chairs" backfield that we've had so far. Hopefully this will get the offensive line fired up for a challenge, especially against this "ranked" team.

Call me a starry-eyed optomist, but I am revising my previous prediction:
SAC - 38
NAU - 21

GO HORNETS!

With Smith out, they're probably going to shift more of their focus to Hilliard/Croxdale. This could make things a little easier on Duncan, but I still think we lose this game.

Here are some projected stats from me in addition to my NAU 34 SAC 21 prediction...

D. White: 16-29 212 yards 1 TD 2 INT

T. Washington: 6 Catches 102 yards

B.HIlliard: 21 car 92 yds TD, 1 rec 12 yds

J. Croxdale: 9 car 24 yds TD, 2 rec 11 yds

o.k., now that you've piqued my curiousity, i'll go a little further out on the limb:

D. White: 10-18 180 yards 1 TD 0 INT
T. Washington: 6 Catches 120 yards
B.HIlliard: 28 car 140 yds 3TD, 2 rec 40 yds
J. Croxdale: 18 car 70 yds 1TD, 2 rec 20 yds

anyone else care to take some guesses? Winghunter, where are you, hunting?!

Go Hornets!

I'll take a stab at it.

White: 13-22, 219 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Washington: 8 catches, 116 yards, 1 TD

Hilliard: 31 carries, 127 yards, 1 TD, 2 rec, 15 yards

Croxdale: 11 carries, 37 yards

Gamboa: one 37 yard FG

stopped by practice yesterday, saw some nice things, and saw some bad things, but hey ill give it a shot as well.

White 11-27 236 1td 3int

Wahington 6 catches 118yd

Hill 3 catches 56yds 1 td

Hilliard 26 carries for 119

Croxdale 7 carries for 32

I hate to give White those numbers but I have seen the guy play last year and this year durring spring, he tends to get flustered and just throw the ball up for grabs. I hope im wrong, but either way I have sac winning 24-17

If the coaches play Hilliard and Crox as the have in recent weeks, look for them BOTH to go over the magic century mark. And that will open the door for White to get some big numbers in the air. I'm looking at at least 250 for White. Assuming, of course, the receivers actually catch the ball....

Croxdale: 11 carries, 37 yards

Gamboa: one 37 yard FG

Ok, what is the final score?

Hornets 27
Jacks 17

White throw for 2 TD's, Hilliard gets his TD in the 4th as we pound out yards and wear them down. Gamboa gets a field goal in the 1st Qtr and ices the game in the forth Qtr with another putting Sac up by 10 points and sealing the victory!

I made my score prediction on the 30th but decided to also have some fun with the stat guessing. My score prediction did'nt change.

I'm going to start doing this each week so people can see how they did against the real stats...

D. White was 15-31 253 yards 1TD 2 INT

T. Washington had 6 Catches, 115 yds TD

Hilliard had 16 Carrirs for 26 *Ouch!*

Croxdale had 14 Carries for 56 yards (his 34 yards in the final 7 minutes or so killed my prediction, but good for him)

Results

D. White: 10-18 180 yards 1 TD 0 INT
15-31 253 yards 1TD 2 INT

T. Washington: 6 Catches 120 yards
6 Catches 115 yards TD

B.HIlliard: 28 car 140 yds 3TD, 2 rec 40 yds
16 car 26 yds

J. Croxdale: 18 car 70 yds 1TD, 2 rec 20 yds
14 car 56 yards
