http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/news/release.asp?release_id=9749SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After a successful 2010-11 campaign, the Sacramento State athletics program was ranked ahead of 226 Div. I institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings.
Of the 345 Div. I athletic institutions, Sacramento State placed 119th, the highest finish among the nine Big Sky Conference schools. The placing stamps an academic year which saw the Hornets account for eight conference championships while also winning the Big Sky Conference’s all-sports points title.
The Directors’ Cup ranks the nation’s athletic programs based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports, and is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
The Hornets’ 142.50 total points in the standings were the third highest in the California State University system, trailing only San Diego State and Fresno State.
This year marks the first time the Hornets finished ahead of every other Big Sky institution in the final standings. In addition, the finish is the second highest garnered by Sacramento State as the program finished 115th in 2007-08.
