Sac State Discussion and Game Thread

In addition to loosing Renard, TJ Lee didn't play due to a concussion in last game. It is amazing how everyone steps up and what the coaching staff are doing with a really banged up team.
Regardless of their record at the end of they year, this is really a special team.
I just left the game and it was awesome to have the ENTIRE team come over and sing the fight song for the fans.

So is that confirmed Renard's done? Someone said his injury looked pretty bad.

dont remember hearing anything in the post game show but i would have to think it was serious enough since he did not come back into the game. hopefully not a break or serious sprain that would just seem to be the icing on the cake with the injuries

They wrapped and re-wrapped the ankle but he couldn't put pressure on it. Before half they had it iced. When he came back after half it was not wrapped but he was riding around on a cart.
Looks pretty bad but he is a warrior and if he can go next week I'm sure he will be there. We need him!!

Does anyone have an injury report for this game?

Don't know about this game specifically, but right now just off the top of my head key players we are missing.

S - M. Johnson - Out for season
LB - Z. Johnson - Out for season
OG - J. Butorac - Out for season
OG - A. Miller - Out for season
OG - S. Forgette - Out for season
WR - T. Hart - Out for season
WR - B. Kaufman - Out for season

?

DT - R. Williams (Went down in first series vs Sac)
Z. Gehring - Injured versus UNC

There are a few others I cannot remember off the top of my head.

When do you start playing the cheer leaders? Just sad to see a list like that.

I heard Screamin' may be suiting up next game.

Not sure if I would want to see him all dressed up as a cheer leader. Perhaps it is just me.

Liar. :ohno:

I need to get a copy of this game from their Athletic Department... I have to watch it. I'll probably wait a couple months though so they have enough time to cool down. :D

To All,
I cut my ties with "Big Sky TV" about three years ago. The experiences were not the greatest. If I don't go to Northern Quest, I stay home and listen to it on the radio. I just gor tired of looking at what all of you are describing.  Vic I did watch Altitude TV and saw Montana State defeat UNC 31-21, with MSU committing three turnovers. RB Kirk from MSU is a "STUD" he had over 200 yds rushing. Give credit where credit is due. UW,WSU both bit the dust. Vic

Big sky tv is way more reliable now than it was three years ago. And isn't that the feed that NQ uses anyway?

Relax. They have made great strides in better reliability and video quality. You get to watch a game for FREE. Never heard someone, well egriz, bitch about a product that is FREE.

Renard played after he got hurt... he'll be fine. He just didn't play well, and was benched. The whole DT rotation got pulled, in case anyone didn't notice.

Once the happiness subsides from this big come-from-behind win, there will be an ugly film session where we have to come to terms with how awful our defense is playing. Remember, we almost lost by missing 7 (count 'em) tackles on a play in which Sac State was trying to run out the clock and instead ran 40 yards. Backup or not, college football players are expected to make tackles, not bounce off.

This. I don't think anyone could expect the offense to play much better than they did. The fact that we were behind going into the 4th qtr of this game was pretty much due to the fact that our defense could not get Sac State off the field. I think our offense had three positions the entire first half or something stupid like that. When the offense was on the field, they executed.

Injuries or not, when you have a true Freshman (McCarthy) leading the team in tackles, that's pretty telling.

Also, are you sure about Renard? I was looking for him the entire game after the first series, and didn't see #98 one time. I thought I saw him a couple times, but it was #56 Evan Cook. I'm pretty sure he never made it back into the game.

I think he came out for two drives after the one in which he was hurt. Moetolui and Katoa also go scrapped, I didn't even recognize the guys that finished the game for us on the DL. Based on the roster numbers, it would have been Evan Cook and Cody Humphrey... so I don't think they were in correct numbers.

Even with Renard in, our DTs got blown apart like Moses was parting the Red Sea. Our run defense was so atrocious it almost made me puke. Our end play has improved quite a bit, but without any presence up front, it doesn't help that much. Anthony Larry is really playing hard, and with the exception of that first play in OT when we totally lost containment, he did a good job.

It was difficult to discern the defensive players and alignment due to the tight camera work that only showed the offensive set (regardless of the team) so we mostly had to wait until the play was over (or the field was littered with missed tacklers) to tell who was out there. Not sure what's happening with the defense... seems very disjointed but ultimately they got the three and outs and forced the field goal attempts when they had to ... I do wish for some more lights out tackling and no more injuries. Not too much to ask from the football gods, really. Really?! REALLY!

agree we had no pressure up the middle it was so hard to watch that. Our DEs were really getting in there but without any real penatration from the middle of the field they were having a hard go. Honestly I am not worried about our DEs we have several play makers in that position.

Renard tried to play but was only in for a couple of plays and came back to the bench. I was watching him closely and believe me, he was really hurting. I hope he will be OK because we need him and as hard as he has worked over the years, he deserves to end his college career on a positive note.
I'm sure film sessions will be a huge learning session, especially for our young inexperienced linebackers and DB's. We got outsmarted on delayed draws, reverse and several other semi tricky plays. Corners and d-ends need to stay at home to prevent that. We'll get there, these are young guys. What we lack in experience we make up for in raw talent.
As fans we need to get the stands full on Saturday to honor our seniors and cheer the team to another victory.

What I fear is that the problem is such that a good film session won't correct it... we get in the right positions, but don't (can't?) make the tackles. I know stats aren't kept on this, but I wouldn't doubt we've missed 300+ tackles this year. The amount of tackles we miss, even on a drive-by-drive basis, is absolutely shocking.

Plus, what the hell gives with our kickoff coverage? It's just miserable. I wouldn't say our special teams suck, because clearly our punting and kicking games have improved exponentially over last year, but we sure don't cover the kickoffs well at all.
