SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It may have only lasted eight plays, but the first team offense for Sacramento State lived up to its preseason hype during the final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday at Hornet Stadium.
Led by senior Jeff Fleming, who was 4-for-4 for 45 yards, the unit covered 80 yards resulting in a 4-yard touchdown run from Bryan Hilliard. The lone miscue of the drive came on the opening play when the Hornets were whistled for holding moving the ball back to their own 20-yard line. From that point, Fleming hit Chase Deadder for seven yards, Morris Norrise for 6 and Deadder again for 17. Curtis Shaw added runs of 7 and 1 yards before Deadder grabbed a 15-yard pass to take the ball to the defense's 27-yard line. Hilliard took the ball inside the five with a dynamic gain of 23 yards which saw him bounce off several would-be tacklers, setting up his scoring run.
