Sac State vs. UNC (No, not that one...)

K, guys... I have been without a CPU during a move, so I apologize for my absence. I know you all missed me.

Thoughts on this week's game? UNC is going to be a tough game for us. But, weather doesn't appear to be coming into play this weekend, which is nice.

The bears are improved, but I'm relying on some good 'ol momentum to help us finish the year on a 3-1 tear!

SAC 34
UNC 28

NAU - W
@UNC - W
@MSU - L
UCD - W

5-6...? I'll take it!!!

How weak is The Sports Network? UC Dungpile is still getting votes in their Top 25 Poll with only one real DI win (PSU)... Wins over South Dakota and Winston-Salem State (both "transitional programs"), a DII (Western Oregon), and Portland State... Give me a break... Can't wait 'til Nov. 21....

First off, Kadeezy, welcome back. I've been having computer issues myself, but they look to be behind me as of today. Too bad I'll be out of town for a job interview near Barstow the next couple of days....

I just have one problem with your post, Kadeezy. I just can't see us losing to the Kitties. Sure, I'm myopic. But the Kitties just aren't that good.

The circle jerks who gave davis a vote have a hardon for davis regardless of W/L, especially that pencil knob Kent Schmidt. They got their asses handed to them by the thunderchickens, who traditionally have had a worse record than us. And they try and make it sound like the TC's are the cats meow. Cocky bastards.

Hell if we have to, have sperbutt suit up and play RB against davis if we have to. Did he use up his eligibility at reno?

Yeah I think if the Hornets play the way they did against NAU (minus the turnovers) they can win out the rest of the season and finish 6-5. And with regard to “the farm extension” poll votes, they are meaningless. We have this thing called the playoffs in the FCS that sorts everything out. Plus with the decline of cal poly, the Great West has become completely irrelevant again. It takes a whooping 4 conference wins, that’s right four, to win the conference championship. What a joke. It took cal poly half of a season to play down to my expectations, but they are playing as I felt they would with the changes they had. No one from that conference will get a playoff bid. As Kadeezy pointed out, “the farm extension” doesn’t have ANY quality wins and are only relying on the “we have a lot of close losses” defense. If USD had a kicker, they would have lost that game, and they squeaked by a Hubel-less PSU team. Other than that, their other wins are against a D-II school and a complete joke of a program in Winston-Salem. But enough about them, everything will be settled on November 21st.

I’ll get to my evaluation of the UNC game in the next few days. This will not be an easy game. The last time the Hornets traveled to Greeley, they needed a Hail Mary to escape that place with a win. Plus their coach is on the hot seat and will be completely desperate to hang onto his job.

Come on guys, I actually enjoyed watching U.C. Dungpile's pathetic whining for respect and a ranking on AGS last week! Now the rest of the country can see what a bunch of losers and irrational fools they are!
They have played no one except Montana that was ranked in the FCS, and their "wins" prove nothing. We on the other hand have played 5 FCS ranked teams and actually beat one! I think that it will be possible for us to win our final three games and finish at 6-5 which with the way we started would be great. If we can bring the same intensity and focus that we have shown the past two weeks we should be ok against UNC although we are in no position to take anything for granted. What we really need now is to show consistency, we almost had it at the end of last season until we ran into that "powerhouse" Idaho State team. Let's hope we learned something from that!

Hornets 38
Bears 21

it's always a bummer moving out of the dorms...

Ha. Ha.

Though I do love me some DC grilled chee... I may have gone insane if I spent any more time than the 2002-2003 year in the dorms... :roll:

I actually will be finishing up my MBA at CSUS in the Spring and closed on the purchase of my first home last week.

The Hornets will have their hands full this week as they travel to Northern Colorado to face the over achieving Bears. UNC is coming off of a win over a South Dakota squad who took Montana State to overtime in Bozeman and was 2 missed field goals and a missed PAT from knocking off “the farm extension” at home. I think this game will be a hard fought game that can go either way. UNC will have the advantage as they have home field advantage and the roar of the 1,500 fans that will be in the stands. The disadvantage for UNC is the Hornets will be coming off of a stellar win over a ranked opponent and will have a lot of momentum. If the Hornets come out and play with the intensity and aggression that they played with against NAU, they will take this game by a few touchdowns. The Hornets need to keep the momentum going and focus on the task at hand.

Offensively, both teams have put up comparable numbers. I haven’t watched a UNC game since I was a student as they came to Hornet Stadium for the first time four years ago. I heard they run a bit of the option that can present some problems but other than that I have no idea what to expect. UNC averages 216.3 yards per game through the air and 113.1 yards per game on the ground. Sac State has averaged 220.9 yards per game through the air and 130.1 yards per game on the ground. The stats say they are pretty evenly matched, however if the Hornet O-line comes out and plays with the physicality that they did in the 3rd quarter of the NAU game, they can completely dominate this UNC defense.

Both of these teams are comparable on the defensive side of the ball as well. The big difference being that the UNC defense has 10 INT’s on the season which makes them 3rd in the Big Sky. This is a concern seeing as Smith loves to throw the INT at the most inopportune times. I will be interested to see if the Hornet front 4 can take over the game as they did at times last week. They will need to have another great game if they want to win this game.

The Hornets stepped it up on special teams last week and they will need to execute in this area again. UNC doesn’t appear to have an explosive return man for punt returns as they are only averaging 7.1 yards per return compared to the 4.0 yards per punt return for the Hornets. Heath proved to be a weapon with his ability to pin teams deep in their own side of the field. This may come into play once again this week. Both teams have capable kickers as UNC is 10-14 on the year and the Hornets Diniz is a perfect 9-9.

On paper these teams are evenly matched. I think this game will come down to the intangibles. It’s going to come down to which team is more disciplined and which team doesn’t turn the ball over. UNC has thrown only 4 INT’s so far this season so it will be interesting to see if this Hornet secondary can force some turnovers. Both offenses have fumbled the ball about the same number of times: 17 for UNC and 15 for Sac State. The Hornets have the advantage of going against the most penalized team in the Big Sky. UNC has had 70 penalties for 628 yards compared to Sac State’s 42 penalties for 365 yards. In closing, the Hornets will have their hands full and can not afford to overlook UNC. UNC has proven this year they can win some games so this will be an interesting game. I’m going with the Hornets given that I feel they will be riding a strong wave of momentum heading into this game.

GO HORNETS!

SD, you sound like Joe Gibbs. We're SO going to spank UNC.

No so fast SH. We barely beat these guys a few years ago with a last play hail mary. And they have usually given us fits. Both teams are struggling for respectability. If our D can play like they did last week and we can find a running game to open up Smith, we should come out on top, but it will be close.

No turnovers and execute.

Good for you Kadeezy. Good time to purchase and the MBA can't hurt.

Let's get this started. Beer is in hand, BigSkyTV.org is booted and ready to go, the only thing left is a Hornet victory. The UNC visiting side of the stadium looks deserted (that's a shocker). 5 minutes until kick-off.

The camera just panned across the home side of the stadium, it's slightly more crowded...but no much more than the visiting side. I'd estimate somehere around 2k showed for this game. Also the weather looks fantastic. Unless there are some wind gusts, weather shouldn't be an issue today.

Looks like UNC runs an option read type offense out of the shotgun. This will cause some problems. UNC driving.

UNC is facing a 3rd and about 7. Wow, the defense lines up with 3 down linemen and jumps offsides. 3rd and short.
