Sac State @ Washington State

We got off to an awful start, disasterous actually, as it was 27 to nothing and ten minutes were gone before we scored a bucket. I hope we're really not this bad; we can't hit anything.

84-36 final....ouch-squared!

1-15 from the 3 point line. 22 turnovers.

davis plays at Cal tomorrow; Cal is coming off 2 losses, one where they had 5 points in the 1st half (Notre Dame). I'm afraid our score will look like yours tonight. on the bright side, its a shorter, easier trip to Cal vs. Pullman. and, it gives me an excuse to see my son who's a grad student at Cal (and grab a Top Dog!)

Mmmmm.... I love Top Dog!

Wazzu is d@mn good! In fact, ESPN is pcking them this Friday against K-State.

Sac State is d@mn horrible! Sorry, I just dont see any moral victories in this one.

Yeah there were none last night. Great thing about hoops, another game quickly to put this one out of our minds. I expect a better game from us against UVU.

The Hornets didn’t show up for this one…no really it took them 10 minutes before they scored a point, they really didn’t show up. It was 27-2 midway through the first half. To say this was pathetic and an embarrassment is an understatement. I don’t think there are words to describe how unprepared the Hornets were. At least the Hornets got ran off the court by an undefeated Pac-10 team. I don’t think anyone expected a win but I am sure everyone expected the Hornets to at least compete.

UVU has yet to win a D-1 game…but that hasn’t helped the Hornets against opponents with similar backgrounds so far this season.

"unprepared"??? They couldn't make a shot! 27-2 midway through the first half indicates that they were "unprepared"??? I don't think Coach Katz went up there just to collect a check. Bottom line, WSU might be pretty darn good this year.

Yup. The Hornets were not mentally prepared for such a matchup and listening to the audio it sounded as if the Hornets were like a deer caught in the headlights. WSU is very talented and that obviously played a big part of the blowout, but not scoring any points through the first 10 minutes of the game is ridiculous. And much like football scheduling Stanford, yes I have to believe that this matchup was pretty much just for the money. Unless there is some kind of connection between the two schools I don’t know about, why else would this game (or any game against a Pac-10 opponent) get scheduled?

Hard to imagine that a team isn't at least mentally and physically ready to try and compete. Going down 27-0 - regardless of whether you are playing a Pac 10 school - says something about the status of the program.

We play in a jr. high gym, what do you expect?

Last time I checked the height of the rim and the dimensions of the court are the same at Sac State as they are at Duke. The opportunity to make a statement - even if you lose - by going up against a big name school and playing hard ought to be motivation enough.

I hate to bring it up again, but that hasn't stopped Portland State. I really couldn't tell you what would help this team compete. I'm not going to call for Katz head at this point. The 2009-10 season was a huge improvement from the 2008-09 season. I still have hope he can inspire these guys to some big wins. I certainly don't think we will see the Big Sky tourney this year, but it would be nice to see some improvement in our play against our conference rivals, earning a few more wins than last.

I think this team needs someone to take the leadership role and drive the others. I don't know who, but someone needs to step up.

I may be wrong, but isn't Portland State on probation or excluded from the Big Sky Tourney this year??? Not sure if that's an example we want to follow.

Facilities do matter. Yes they are not an excuse for improving the program, but ultimately that will be the limiting factor on the recruiting side of things. Katz predecessor Jenkins had some success and also had a very exciting style of play that brought asses to the seats and he had the same, if not less than what Katz has available to him. Katz is in his 3rd year so a lot of the excuses he had the previous 2 years are pretty thin. The hope was to see this program improve and at this moment it’s been hard to see much improvement from last season. There are still plenty of games to be played.

Just to be clear to everyone I am in no way advocating for the return of Jenkins nor am I calling for Katz’ head at the moment.

They were clearly unprepared to play - and that IS the coaches responsiblility! He has either recruited players willing and able to at least compete at a higher level or he has a plan to keep an over matched team in a game. I can understand that you lose by 30, but there should NEVER be a situation where you're down 27-0. We are supposed to be a D1 program - with D1 talent (or at least a D1 spirit). How is it that Jessup can stay in the game with UOP, or Aof Arts can beat Davis? These are lowly NAIA programs but they stay in games with D1 teams? Then we get beat by 50 vs another D1 team - Embarrassing!!

Katz didn't have them mentaly prepared, and he didn't adjust during the game. Every shot except one during the first 7 minutes was a jump shot. What kind of offense is that? If you're not making shots you're taught at an early age to go to the basket, try to create a foul and get to the free throw line. On the defensive end do something to put pressure on the other team, try to take away what they do well (double team their top scorer).

I was actually holding out hope that this would be a break out season - an over .500 season with a BSC Tourney spot. This team has no plan and no fight!

To all you people that say facilies are the reason we can't win, just look at CSUN and Portland St. Yes Portland is on probation this year but they've been to the NCAA tourney twice and have numerous winning seasons. They also have a past player in the NBA. CSUN has been to the tourney and they have a 17 point win over DePaul this year. Everyone needs to stop with the excuses. Is it easy, no - but it is possible to be competitive and have a winning record!

As a former player, I'm embarrassed by the performance this year!
