I’m hoping for a good game. We have played EWU tough the past few years so I think anything is possible at this point. EWU has showed some grit and pulled off some impressive wins.

He'll of a write up SD. You've done your homework

I can't figure out how good Sac is. Their two losses look like outliers, the kind of losses you'd see on a form guide in horse racing and just put a line through because they make no sense. They got clobbered by a terrible, but FBS, New Mexico State team (that later lost to Idaho). They got beat going away by North Dakota in a game that was close for 3 quarters. If you wrote those two off, they'd look like a damn fine football team.

How in the hell did they get so erratic? I hope the crappy Sac State shows up this weekend. But if the Dr. Jekyll version comes to Cheney, they are a very live underdog.

Sacramento State Hornets (5-2, 3-1 Big Sky) at No. 1 Eastern Washington Eagles (5-1, 4-0), 7:05 p.m.

Series record: Eastern Washington leads, 16-4

Last meeting: Eastern Washington 42, Sacramento State 35 (Oct. 22, 2011)

What to know: Eastern Washington is coming off a great week, to say the least. The Eagles defeated Montana State, 27-24, in Bozeman and are off to their first ever 4-0 start in conference play. With the win over previously second- ranked MSU, Eastern jumped to No. 1 in the FCS Top 25 and has now been ranked at the top spot for at least one week in three straight seasons.

When you look at its resume, EWU has nice wins over FBS Idaho, Montana and Montana State and controls its own destiny in the big picture of the Big Sky. Even though the high-octane offense totaled just 211 yards last week, it took big plays on special teams and a huge pick-six to steal a win on the road. This week, however, coach Beau Baldwin must have his squad focused and ready to move on.

Sacramento State is off to its best start in two decades, matching the 5-2 record of the 1992 squad. In the series, largely led by the Eagles, the last 12 meetings have seen the home team win just twice.

The Hornets aren't exactly accustomed to the limelight, but last week the defense played outstanding in a 19-14 win over Weber State. Three players reached double-digits in tackles, while the unit as a whole forced three turnovers and five sacks.

Sacramento State's defense in general is great against the run, allowing 111 yards per game, which will help because EWU struggled last week to find balance offensively, and really has for most of the season.

Quarterback Vernon Adams didn't have his best performance versus the Bobcats last week, but he has too many weapons spread out to play catch with. Don't overlook an EWU defense which leads the conference in scoring defense at 20 points per game. Plus, Eastern is now 19-1 in the last three years after Oct. 1.

Prediction: Eastern Washington 40, Sacramento State 30

:+1: only 1 loss in 3 years after Oct 1...that is damn impressive

It speaks to how bad our scheduling has been pre- October 1st.

Dopa, our very own rain cloud! If there was ever an apropos signature avatar (skull and crossbones) for a glass half empty kind of guy...

Thank God for Dopa. This might be EGriz, otherwise. To recap, here is where our program stands according to Mr. Half Glass Empty:

1. Embarrassing stadium no recruit of any quality would play in.
2. Players prone to injury.
3. Non existent fan support.
4. Self-destructive scheduling designed to eliminate our team from playoff contention by mid September.

In short, we're Idaho State in red and black. We may just as well join Western Washington and abandon football altogether. Seriously though, I'm impressed with the insight, knowledge and affinity for Eagle football found around here. Even Dopa's.

Best of luck today EWU fans...although you may not need much. I'm hoping for a good game. :thumb:

It will be a good game. Despite previous Sac State success in Cheney, EWU will prevail today as we now have bigger crowds, we should be more comfortable with the wind and our defensive line is playing at a high level, led by #91 Jerry Ceja.

The most painful loss I've seen in Cheney since Coach Baldwin arrived was our 15-13 loss in 2008. My pick is EWU 24 Sac State 20. Look for Kauffman, Herd and Edwards to play better than last week as Vernon will play better. However, we still have a freshman QB so things happen. If Vernon can avoid mistakes and make their LB's and DB's think run he will roast them with his arm. We may then see a blowout as Sac State pass defense is weak. Regardless, we must establish the run, just as we've done most of this season.

It seems we are being a little conservative with our predictions and sensitive that we are afriad we will jinx our #1 ranking. I am also worried about this game, because now every game is a must win to retain our just earned seeding in the playoffs, a second loss and we are an at large, and a 3rd loss we may barely get in.

Honestly, the Eagles are more than ready to play. The veterans are savvy and smart. We are playing through our depth chart. The Eags are experinced and know how hard it is to be ranked number #1

In other words, weather, late start, Sac St, whatever the worry -- we win by 17, 36-17   :kisswink:

it will depend on the offense. we need to be able to actually put points on the board on offense to beat this team, because they will score plenty themselves. I am ok with adams as the starter at this point, but two or three drives of him not moving the ball and we need to get Padron in there, just my opinion.
