Vikings Host TV Game With Sacramento State This Sunday

They're holding Jones out this game because he sprained his ankle against NAU, on the pre-game show Bone said that he could have played, but they were just playing it safe and giving him some rest. However, just now on the Stumptown Sports Hook blog they're saying more information has come out and Jones may be out for the season with an injury to his foot.

It certainly wasn't the most exciting game. It's hard to get into it when your team goes up 27 points.

From street ball last year to slow ball this year, Sac St. isn't a very good team. It's hard to say much about this game other then the Vikings did what they needed for a victory and very little else.

Vikings dispatch of lowly Sac State, 59-42

Not very exciting.

I don't mean to be rude, but Sac State is terrible. How did they ever beat Idaho State? That slow-down play that they did for most of the game has the look and feel of a junior high basketball team. Thank goodness we finally pressed. Oh, and that intentional (I'll call it intentional, even though the officials didn't seem to see it that way) foul on Murray was chicken sh*t. A two handed push in the back when the guy is in the air for a lay in. Bush League.

Hats off to who ever got the pep band deal arranged. The Stott would have been like a morgue today if it wasn't for them.

Here is to hoping that Jones is ready for the games this week or the Vikings will have a very front line on a tough road trip.I would assume Mara would get backup minutes for Coston and Thomas.Tyrell could be looking at 25 to 30 minutes each game. The back court will need to be ready to pitch in big time.I could see Louis Lee needing to give some minutes and perhaps fouls off the bench.

I continuously root for Lee to get a field goal, and I simply would not be able to contain myself if I were to see a thundering alley oop dunk by Lee.

However, your statement flat out scares me.

This whole scenario brings me back to something I've asked before - why not just play the 5 best available players? I think there should be more times when JD, Waters, Murray, and Nelson are on the floor together (after Jones, I'm not sure who our 5th best player is, so pick Coston or Mara). This is the Big Sky, where there aren't a lot of great big guys anyway, so at some point, wouldn't you just see if your ballers can win you a game? I say PSU should just stretch the floor and force the defense to pick between closing out our outside shooting or giving up the drive to our excellent penetrators.

Thomas is the fifth best player at this point, and that's even when Jones is playing.

Thomas has really picked up his game. Jones is still our most effective inside scorer.

Thomas has indeed. His free throws are even better over the past couple of games.

Well this article says Jones is questionable for the coming weeks games with an ankle sprain...guess we won't know for sure until Thursday and Saturday.

That's not good news. We need all the inside depth we can get for this road trip.
