Built in 1955, the Hornets Nest is one of the oldest facilities among all NCAA Division I member universities. With a seating capacity of approximately 1200, the intimate setting results in a great opportunity for the fans to be close to the action from every seat in the gym. In 2002, the Hornet men's basketball team sold out every game in Big Sky Conference play.
SDHornet said:It's listed at approximately 1,200, and I am confident it holds more than the NAU temp location. From what I saw on BSTV when the Hornets played at NAU last week, the stands at The Nest look higher than NAU's temp stands.

SDHornet said:Yes a student referendum was passed in spring of 2004 (I voted for it). It was a rec center and a 6-8k events center. The president had to raise independent funds before student fees were to be invoked for additional monies. The president raised the funds but used them on football fieldhouse and started building the rec center. The economy hit the skids and has stalled the event center. The president has publicly stated that he is still working on getting the events center built. I think it will happen and had the economy not fell apart like it did, the events center probably would be nearing completion right about now. Sadly it is a wait and see feeling to it now. I believe it will happen mainly because the president is a man of vision and he wants to get Sac State to become a destination campus. There have been many new facilities added on the campus since he has arrived.
