This could be a real challenge. They played Arizona state tough losing 19-7, Fresno St Bulldogs respectably but lost 34-20 and completely dominated N. Colorado ( who beat the Vandals yesterday). The 77-19 clobbering of So Oregon appears to be more of a scrimmage.
We know the offensive skills of HC Troy Taylor and Cherokee Valeria will have their defense ready to shut down our unpredictable offense.

I would argue that our offense is predictable right now and uncreative as well. Shoemakers O is but a shell of Taylor's offense. Oh the good old days. Sure hope AB can make the moves to get Shoemaker, EB3 and the rest of the Offense back or we will have wasted this talented Senior class.

What we, as sideline second guessers, do not know is how much more offense can our players handle.

EB3, the O Line, the TE, Custer, Boston, William's have all handled much more creative offenses in the past I'm sure they are all very capable. The variable is Shoemaker. What is he capable of getting out of our guys. Taylor and Reader both got a lot out of many of these same guys. Where did EB3 of last year go? He seems very out of sorts and unsure of himself. What has happened to the RPO game? Where is our quick precision passing game? If our O cant get some things worked out I cant see us getting a win this week or making the playoffs.

I think we need to play Sac State the same way we did UND but with better execution in the second half. Run the ball and keep it out of the hands our their offense. We won't win a face paced shootout type game against them. We just don't have the offense to do it this year but let's lean on them with our offensive line and control the clock.

Thoughts on the drop off here with the new coaches on the defensive side of the ball.

New Def Coordinator
New Secondary Coach - lost Coach Cherokee who was also recruiting coordinator to Sac State

I don't think the offense has changed that much, but the execution has changed a ton. We're an offense that is predicated on being able to keep the defense honest with a QB who can get into space and make plays. But our QB isn't calling his own number often enough. I wasn't keeping a running count, but I only remember a couple times where Barriere called his own number and took off upfield against UND. One was a third down and he went for about 15 yards; another resulted in a TD. We need him to mentally prepare for taking the ball himself when the read is there.

The offense isn't predictable by design, it is predictable because we run the same plays regardless of what the defense presents. We opt for the same variation even if it is the wrong choice based on what the defense shows. That's not a play call, that's execution.

Defensively, we seem to have simplified what we're doing. The first couple of games, we were shifting so much that our DL was often out of position. It seems like we've stopped doing that with regularity. Ultimately, we have LBs who want to fly around, so getting big performances out of the DTs is paramount. When Moore was out, we didn't have enough talent to make that work. With him back... our D was MUCH better. The other thing I notice is how small our DBs are. Any team with big physical receivers is a bad matchup for us.

Anyone coming down for the game? I was secretly hoping you guys would still be ranked in the Top 10 so if we upset you, we’d get some cred!

I still think EWU should be favored in this game regardless of how well SAC has played to this point. It seems like we always play FBS teams close, and typically win the games we’re expected to (UNC). But, EWU, MSU, UM, Weber, Idaho, Davis, and Poly to finish out the year is murderer’s row!

We need to find a punter. Our kicking game has been weak all year; we are losing the field position battle consistently.
