Hi everyone,

Bill Bradley, former sports editor of the Sacramento Bee here.

You've spoken to me through this board and through emails. And because of the interest to an earlier post, I will debut SacStateSports.com next month. If all goes well, it will be up and running before the first football game against Oregon State.

This will be an objective website with news, opinion and features on Sac State sports. The focus of the site will be football, men's basketball and women's basketball, but also will report news and features on other significant Hornets sports news. And we will try to keep track of recruiting for football and other teams. That is something this market has rarely had in the past.

We will also aggregate Sac State sports news from other sources.

There could be delays but we're crossing our fingers that we can pull this off soon. Any suggestions for features and ideas will be appreciated.

Also, if you are an advertiser or know of a business that buys ads tied to Hornets athletics, I am looking for foundational sponsors. Just email me at [email protected].

Thanks and I look forward to kicking off this site.

Bill,

This is a great idea and I'm sure it will be very popular. The old SacRat blog was gaining popularity before it shut down a couple years ago and ever since, there's been a hole in the coverage considering what the BEE provides.

As a faithful poster to this board (and others), I will do my best at the launch to share the links with folks. I know others will do the same.

I'm sure you're planning to go the Facebook/Twitter route as well, that will be a great source of readership I'm sure.

Let us know what we can do. Go hornets!

Bill, let me know if I can assist you. I will definitely spread the word. Your site will quickly pull Bee readers as they traditionally have been ignored in the past.

I'll make this a sticky.

I appreciate the kind words and input.

I am taking the advice of the fans and making it a site devoted to Sac State sports. If it is successful, then I will create a separate UC Davis sports. So rest assured that the combined site I mentioned earlier will not happen.

Again, any input is appreciated as I try to make it happen. It's hard to believe that a school with 30,000 students has no regular media coverage. We're going to try to fix that.

Thanks and I will keep you posted on its progress. I hope leak the beta version here before I announce the debut to the Sacramento and Northern California media.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, that sounds great. Can't wait...

Sac State is so accessible to everyone, hopefully this will take off!

Hi all,

Hornut, we hope to have the site up by this weekend for a soft launch. We will be going full bore soon after, but may not have all the bells and whistles we want until the middle of next month.

What we are planning is this:

* I will write columns and edit the site, with lots of aggregation of Sac State and relevant Big Sky news from other sources.

* There will be a football beat writer.

* There will be a men's basketball beat writer.

* There will be a women's basketball and football recruiting beat writer.

Yes, we will be making recruiting a premium on this site. And we will even be covering the Monday football luncheons.

We will be soliciting foundational sponsors soon after Labor Day. So please put the word out: If someone wants to advertise on a site devoted to Hornets sports news, we will offer friendly rates. We especially want businesses near the Sac State campus.

In the meantime, we're cranking away at getting the site started. If you have any questions or suggestions, please send them to [email protected]. I promise this board will get this first announcement of any news with the site, especially the launch information.

Thanks for your support and we'll be up soon!
Bill Bradley

Seriously looking forward to this too... Could be a great opportunity if we can have a good year on the gridiron. You might consider s small sponsorship fee for posters (something similar to egriz and CSD.com)

It sounds great and it should really fill a void in Sac coverage! Go, Bill!!!
:+1:
Sounds like a site that will cover a lot of stuff. I'm looking forward to it. :thumb:

Bill, Sounds awesome!!! I am a happy Hornet.

Sponsor suggestions -- We have been going to the old Shakey's outside campus for years. Shakey’s is no longer there and it is used to be called The Corner. Now it is called Clark's Corner (5641 J Street). It is a nice place with lots of flat screens and old Sacto sports photos on the walls. In the past, I have seen Sacramento State sponsor plaques hanging on the wall. I cannot say Clark, who is usually sitting at the bar, is sponsoring Sacramento State, but he would lose our patronage if he did not sponsor Sacramento State.

I have also seen the same Sacramento State plaque at Hoppy's Brewery. They got a lot of our money while my buddies and I went to Sac State, so they definitely owe Sac State.

Ideas –- How about collaborating with the 93.1 FM radio people? Pre/Post game show? Break down of Coach Sperbeck interview? Highlight some players? Talk about what is on SacStateSports.com?

I emailed 93.1 and Paul Boris (PM?) responded saying they were excited and could not wait for the first game. I read that Pat Walsh will be interviewing Sperbeck. Is Walsh amiable to collaborating? Bumper sticker?

Just thinking out loud.

Go Hornets!!!
