Sad state of ISU Athletics

As an Idaho State Alum,

Its a sad day for me. I wrote a lengthy post on the General Board on the state of ISU Athletics.

We will always be the 3rd choice in the state for the best student athletes and general students in general.

Our facilities are the worst, our teams don't even have preference in their own facilities.

We have an administration who just doesn't get that a great athletic department will be his best publicity.

His cronies don't get that a community that rallies around a universities teams, will bring in revenue, students and pride.

WE will always be the school, our Idaho kids will drive by, on there way to BYU, Utah, Utah State, Boise State and Idaho.

It's a sad state and a sad day

As an alum myself I want to start this post by agreeing with you overall intention to improve athletics. I appreciate all fans of the school because they feel like friends to me. So please don’t take my comments as an attack on you. I give respectful discussion. So before I start, thank you for your opinion!

We are not 3rd in studies. We are #1 in many things, Pharmacy, Dental Hygiene, (all Pre-Med for that matter), our tech school has unique programs.

Not to mention BSU is not even rated a “Carnegie Research Institution” We are on the same level as U of I when it comes to that. Our faculty is also far superior to BSU.

Amen, Bad facilities. Largely ignored by administrations past.

-We have an administration who just doesn't get that a great athletic department will be his best publicity.

This is an unfair attack on the new president form what I have seen. The new president goes to every home game, he sits in front of some crazy students and laughs with them at the referees, and he has supported the Bengal Village proposal.

The new president has let athletics self-determine their role and their direction. Dick Bowen, the last guy tried to cut athletics all together. That is why I think it is hasty to judge him after a notoriously anti-athletics president over the past twenty hears has hardly been gone for a year.

Go Bengals!
And thank you for sharing your thoughts!

That was a PERFECT response... See what Vailas has done in 5 years, and then we can all comment. Things are definitely headed in the right direction. Pocatello, and the University are in a growing stage right now and I don't see that changing any time soon.
