As for my Pokes, the big game is the BYU Game!!!

Wyoming should beat the Aztecs! But, with our OC being who he is, anything could happen!

Sorry but you will lose down there, you almost lost last year and should have lost, SDSU will be to much for the young cowboys

Very astute observation on your part Viking

When was the last time SDSU lost to UW in SD?

In 1995 Wyoming beat the Aztecs in San Diego, 34-31.

UW has a 5-9 mark in San Diego against SDSU. I always have a UW media guide handy.

Oh, BTW, UW is 15-13 lifetime against the Aztecs!

12 years ago, that's a long run

I don't see Long on the hot seat at the moment. However, if we continue to lose games badly as we did at TCU where it was like we didn't even show up, then things could start getting a bit warmer for Long. I'm wondering how Schiano's delayed success at Rutgers translates to coaches at other schools w/ struggling FB programs? Does it buy them a bit more time to get their players matured into their system?

Central Michigan's former HC did the same thing, not sure how they do it though, I dont know if it's waiting for the right athletes, coaches, support, who knows /users/31/07/37/smiles/noidea.gif

I know those of us who bleed red & black are baffled by our inability to find the winning combination. We have great facilities; we are in a beautiful city and we are surrounded by great talent. No offense Wyokie, but recruiting a kid to SD has to be exponentially easier than to Laramie. I'm hoping Long and staff start recruiting the "Chuck Cecil/Eric Weddels" of the FB world. Maybe he's too small and a step too slow but on the FB field he plays the game!

Where does Long like to recruit? locally I hope.

As Long said when he arrived, there is so much talent in state that most of our focus will be at home. He's trying to lock up SD County, but most of the cream was snatched up by the BCS schools. He did keep the SD offensive POY, Ryan Lindley, home this year. The kid is very intelligent and looks to have great leadership abilities; we'll see how he pans out. Long did quite well in the Bay area this year and is active in the Islands. I'm hoping we can make more inroads into Orange County as the talent there is quite large.

Yep thought the good ones were right outside your backyard, tough when you have to compete with schools like USC.

Yeah competing with SC is tough for anyone let alone a struggling non BCS program. We don't win too many battles head to head with the Big Boys. We did get Burris this year, who was looking at Nebraska, but we also lost Sam Fehoko whose brother plays and starts for the Aztecs, as a true frosh, to Texas Tech.

I remember that, why did he go to tech? I know he turned down UH to go to SDSU then turned down you guys to go to TT.

I think the lure of a BCS school on him was too much to resist. As much as it hurts, I don't know that I wouldn't have done the same thing if I were in his shoes. As far as on the field product goes, TT is miles ahead of us. Now if you want to compare Lubbock to SD, I'll take my chances.

Yeah I've heard it ain't the prettiest place. TT loses their High Powered offense next year(OC left for Arizona)

Looking at the stats from the :glowingcalpoly game, can't quite grasp how you guys lost

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=263010021

The turnovers were the same between the team, just all out wierd, throughout the season you guys played fairly good D(Except the TCU, NM, BYU, Utah games) were you guys young?

No, I think the problem was the players not buying into the new system or style of coaching on defense. Our former DC, who was very popular with the players, was retained as the DB coach and I think at times the kids wanted to go back to what they knew under the former regime. He's now left to be the DC at Tulane. I'm hoping this year brings a healthy Aztec squad with a one team one direction mentality.

Looking at the CP stats, it seems pretty clear we played it way too close to the vest and probably should have spent more time in the air. But hey, it's easy to be a Monday morning qb.

Like Poly last year, I put the Pokes in our win column this year.

We'll eventually win in San Diego again!

One of these centurys

Yea, right! More like a year or two!

hard to say that when you haven't done so in 12 years, all depends if Long gets the ball rolling or not.

BTW /users/31/07/37/smiles/icon5.gif fans, do you think Long is on the hot seat?

After a season like last year, yes he is on the hot seat but his job is safe thisyear. With that, I think he is building a strong program that may turn the program into a strong perennial winner.
