San Diego State Thread

A SuperPrep QB and he couldn't start? WTH? He is huge though

Don't know that he was ever a passer; I think people fell in love with his athleticism in HS and said lets put this guy under center. Has not been able to beat out O'Connell since he was at SDSU. I think it's a good idea to try and get him on the field somewhere, and I like the fact that he is open to doing whatever he can to help the team and himself. Oh the article is wrong, he is only a junior.Last edited by on 2007-04-15, 12:43; edited 1 time in total

One scrimmage in the books and no one hurt! Last year we decimated our TE position during spring ball; 2 knees.

I will be interested to see the progress of Perez in the secondary.

Good, no excuses when we win /users/31/07/37/smiles/949928.gif

True, shows commitment.

Last years UNM game is what worries me so much; we have just been pounded by them the last few years. I'm really hoping that UNM was completely flat and didn't give you guys the respect you deserved in preparing for that one. If UNM was prepared and still got beat, then it could be another ugly day in SD for us Aztec fans.

I know they were testing different QB's, didn't go by us. Our D shoved everything back in their face. Zero TD's. Not to mention our Offense will be 10 times better next year.

San Diego should really be the next Fresno. By that I mean they have all the positives to be a true contender but they've never been able to suck up the talent left over from the USC and UCLA's like Fresno has. I've always liked SDSU (had a friend who played center there in the mid eighties). I'd like to see a "fire in the eyes" coach there. A Pat Hill type (minus the academic infractions of course) would be better suited imo than Long. Though Long deserves another year or two until judgement can be drawn.

laxVik - consider yourself an honorary member of the aztec nation; your thoughts on the program sound like the majority of us on the aztec forum. We keep scratching our heads trying to figure out how we can not be a dominate force in the MWC.

LOL. I've followed the Aztecs for some time. Great city, San Diego. I'd love to see them as the contender they should be. I'll be at the PSU-SDSU game this year. As a PSU fan of course, though.

Well I hope everything about your excursion to SD is enjoyable; right up to kick-off, at which point I hope we suddenly become the aztecs of my youth and but out the whoopin' sticks

I, We, The Aztec Nation, have absolutley no idea what happened. Actually, once we went to the WAC and moved away from recruiting mainly JC athletes and began moving to recruiting the HS athletes we had a dip in our records and the administration panicked and fired Claude Gilbert. Probably the biggest mistake we have made besides letting Coryell get away although I don't know how they could have kept Coryell from going to the NFL. Once Gilbert left, who had been on Coryell's staff, I think we lost our roots so to speak and have been wandering aimlessly in the desert of mediocrity ever since.

That's weird usually recruiting transfers alot isn't good, yet you guys thrived of it. What do you fans think of Long? He on the hot seat?

There are many doubters among the fans at the moment; last years disaster caught most of us kool-aid drinkers completley off guard. I myself, was drinking from the 7-5 or 8-4 cup depending on the UTEP game. I think he and his staff know what it takes to win; I think given the time, like Rutgers did with Schiano, that they can turn it around, but does the administration have the intestinal fortitude to take another couple of lean years????
