San Diego State Thread

Hey PSU, early in the 06 highlite tape their is a locker room shot of a t-shirt hanging above a locker with the numbers 18 and 9 on it. Any significance?

#18 was for Ed Macon who died in an auto accident after hitting some black ice.

I think #9 was for Jamal Abdullah who won the Most Inspirational Award for the 2005 season.

Also from the 2006 video, are these 3 coming back?

1) The big samoan looking DL who levels the UNM qb early in the video.

2) The WR Kirkland

3) Your HB that races through the Oregon secondary

1) No

My wife graduated from SDSU so we go to a game here and there. I think you guys have a GREAT shot at beating them.

Also, not that this is relevant here, but next year SDSU opens at Notre Dame, pretty crazy. Moreover, we all know they played at Ohio State last year.

* First Post of Many * Go Aggies!!!

Yeah it looks like we open in So Bend next year, but that's next year and right now PSU this year scares me a whole lot more than the Irish next year.

As for Ohio St, we only played Wisconsin last year from the Big 10. Lost 14-0.

Holding P.J hill and the Badgers to 14 is quite a feat.

We are a strange team; we on occaision have the ability to play some pretty good ball ie. Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin. We've played all 3 of these in good respectable games and then we can show up and stink the joint out ie TCU, UNM, CPSLO. I have no idea what to expect from this bunch. Have they eliminated the cancer surrounding this club last year, or will it be more of the same?

I'm hoping between the CPSLO loss and your defeat of UNM that everyone comes ready to play that day.

Speaking of strange teams DShaw. I see this years team as one of the most unknown in Aztec history.

I guess you could call it strange.......Nobody knows what the hell is going to happen.

I am optimistic about improvement over last year, but who knows. I can't wait for the season to start.

Last year Steve was the "Perfect Storm" in the case of Aztec FB. A new coaching staff, new systems, new terminology, injuries by the boat loads on the offense; cancer in terms of chemistry; just really ugly all the way around.

I too am excited to see this years product. That small little aztec deep inside of me wants to believe that this year we will show improvement

, but I keep him locked up most of the time. Too many disappointments over the decades.

KOGO-Aztecs Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KOGO Headlines from Friday practice...

104 players report...only one not on field JUCO-OG-Daniel Tufele.

Freshman LB-Miles Burris-held out with hand injury. (True Frosh who may play)

Freshman WR-Vincent Brown caught 6-passes
Lynell Hamilton caught 7-passes out of fullback position. (Recruited by Oregon and Michigan his career has been ruined by a freshman injury; would be great to see him return to form)

Lynell Hamilton weight down 8-pounds from spring ball

Brandon Bournes ran as lead tailback

Davon Brown-Jose Perez ranked 1-2 kickoff returns with speed (We have been hurting for decent returners)

Fred Ammano-very quick, very strong at pulling guard

TE Steve Schmidt caught 40-yard TD from KO'Connell

Offense struggled early in 7-on-7 drills, quarterbacks completed just 12-of-20 passes.

QBs found rythm in 11-on-11 drills.

Ryan Williams-DE-Ohio State-very quick off edge in pass rush drills (Must sit out this season)

KOGO-San Diego...KLAC-Los Angeles reports

Aztecs will also look at Freddie Amano as center-explosive strength and quickness catching eye of coaches in off season workouts and impressive lst day in camp.

Leo Grassilli-(6'3-275) freshman OT-Virginia...will move into center role also today. (We are very thin on the OL only 1 sophmore in the program)

D'Andre West-DB-Aztecs will place him in JC...only recruit not to qualify for fall admittance...Juan Bolanos will be offered opportunithy to 'Greyshirt' or enroll in JC.

Whitley Fehoko may enroll at JC in San Diego to make up 5-credit hours short..may ask to reenroll at SDSU rather than lose whole year of eligibilty by transferring...would have 3-years left with Aztecs. (Left after spring ball in a huff because he lost his starting job)

Portland State-installing run and shoot with Mouse Davis..interested in Kevin Craft now at Mt-SAC.

(Have you guys heard anything on Craft to PSU?)

KOGO Update...

...Vonnie Holmes-CB-College of Canyons-transfer...turned down late opportunities to walk on at Oregon and Colorado because Aztecs coaches stayed in contact and supported him while he worked out his academic issues...others jumped off and then tried to wedge their way back in.

...Miles Burris-LB-cleared to do running drills-may be in pads on Monday following stitches removed from hand.

...Ryan Lindley-QB-much more comfortable in second workout than Friday workout.

...Eric Rouser-OT-TE to sit two weeks to work on academic issues...expected back soon, much like OT-Dan Hathaway. (We need Hathaway eligible)

...Darren Mougey-dominant inside slot WR-may never play QB again..Aztecs have found a gem. (This kid was our #2 qb last season, but he is such a good athlete Long is trying to keep him on the field. 6'6" 230 and can fly. Probably similar to the qb out of Arkansas a couple of years ago)

KOGO Update...

Jon Toledo-Justin Shaw-WR-impressive catching passes...fighting to get into rotation at WR.

Aztecs go to 'Tall Timber' WR corps...Chaz Schilens-Darren Mougey-Roberto Wallace (6'4-6'6-6'3) on field as same time.

Chuck Long expresses concern D'Marco Sampson ligament damage in toe could be career-threatening despite all his efforts to rehab-coach seems very sullen discussing it...kid has worked so hard. (Would be a huge loss as he was scheduled to start last season as a sophmore)

RB-Davon Brown becomes 3rd down pass catching running back like Michael Franklin. Tyler Campbell becomes big back goal-line specialist as North-South runner. (Campbell is the son of Houston Oiler legend Earl Campbell)

6-deep at running back...7-deep at WR...unit is clicking...

Eron Moses-DE-freshman-likely headed to surgery-toe injury suffered in lst workout

Freshman OT-Kurt Gunther (6'8 Kellen Farr (6'7) Leo Grassilli..all move into #2-positions on depth chart ( Probably speaks volumes to our depth and talent on the OL that 3 frosh are running #2)

JUCO-transfer-Vonnie Holmes practices today. (Added talent is an inexperienced group)

KOGO-Staff.
