This is looking like another really good team coming into the Dee. They have had some impressive wins so far, including a couple of WCC teams. They have their top guy back from last years team and look to be playing with a lot of confidence. I suspect that we will be well prepared for them, but it will not be an easy game. We don't have to play our best to win, but we will need to play hard. I think that we will get it done.

I predict an 85 - 79 win for our side.

We will be led by Berry and Senglin, but I think we will see some solid play from our bigs.

San Jose St. is not a very good team, yet. They lost 9 to graduation and transfers after their coach was fired including their best player the last two years in James Kinney.

San Jose is 2-5 with losses to Milwaukee L64-61, @Santa Clara L89-77, @Northern Illinois L60-59, @James Madison L79-66, @Portland L86-69. They have wins over @Pepperdine W83-77, Cal State Fullerton W81-59.

They had 2 players holdover from last season that averaged more than 3 pts. a game in Brown, and Chris Cunningham. I was impressed with Cunningham when I saw the Cats start off the season in San Jose last year. Bolomboy will have his hands full as Cunningham is very solid in the low post.

San Jose's top scorer is 6'6" Freshman Rashad Muhammad the younger brother of 2013 lottery pick Shabazz Muhammad. Former Weber st. recruit Jordan Baker transferred from Pepperdine to SJSU & is sitting out this season.

San Jose leading scorers
1 R Muhammad 16.4 ppg
2 J Williams 13.0 ppg
3 DJ Brown 8.9 ppg

It's time for the veterans to lead this team to a double digit victory. As much as we are a young team we also have 5 seniors including 3 starters who need to take this thing over.

SJSU is in the midst of a major rebuild. There is some talent there but for the first time this season, the Cats will be the team with the most experience (CSU was mostly transfers and holdovers who have been in the program for a while). Weber needs to pound it into the low post and really use our size. Traditional inside out game plan. They have played 7 games but nothing really to write home about. A win against the worst team in the WCC and a win against a sub-par Big West isnt too frightening. But they do have wins.

I would call the wins over Pepperdine and Fullerton quality wins. Their road games weren't as embarrassing as our loss to CSU. SJSU is no USU, but they are no St Katherine's. It will not be an easy game for us. Do I think we should win by double digits? Absolutely! Am I confident that, at this point in the season, we will get it done? Not so much? I would feel much better if James were to get back into the lineup. When Trez and Joel start getting into foul trouble, our play seems to drop off a lot. :coffee:

Need to get at least 1 win against the MWC...thought Wildcats would be 2-1 (wished 3-0) but not so this year! COMEON WILDCATS, use the DEE to your advantage!! Lets show some continued improvement! :thumb:

Glad to see Williams get some minutes and hit some 3s last night. Hill continued to impress on the boards. Boy Gittens is quick to the basket. If he can develop a consistent outside shot ...
FOUL SHOTS!!! During one stretch in the second half Weber missed 9 of 11. This is what let San Jose back in the game. Fortunately, the Cats turned it on after falling behind 45-42.
In the end, a good win, but I was not impressed with San Jose. They fought hard for offensive rebounds, but they just don't have many shooters.

Was that really the Cats running through a press and getting the ball to the rim? Man did I enjoy that. Hope we keep it up!

Hill is getting better by the game and Williams not only chipped in with some good shots from the 3, but was playing hard defense on the other end. Nice to get a win...

Solid effort from the Cats!! We definitely were able to see this teams potential. Two things...gotta hit the freebies and can't allow teams to get soo many second chance opportunities. Same thing killed the Cats Tuesday night against the Ags. But, Weber youth is starting to grow up in a hurry. Gittens was borderline spectacular. He should have had two pretty awesome assists but Joel couldn't hang onto the ball or the pass was too much for him. When Joel plays with fire it is really fun to watch him. He needs to become a man possessed when he gets the ball! And Hill...yikes!!! He is a beast on the boards. Loved seeing Royce knocking down some shots too. He really needed that.

I am shaking in my boots if I am another coach in the Big Sky. There are multiple guys that can be relied upon at both ends of the court. Most nights we will have the advantage at almost every position on the floor. This is going to be a great team for years to come. Royce was awesome, I hope we get to see more of him. I wonder if we are vulnerable for offensive boards against us because we have multiple guys going for the block shot and we are giving up interior position.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Kent Green. He was a great supporter of the basketball program. I talked to him over the Summer and he was super excited to see what these youngsters could do.
