Schedule stuff

I got a look at ISU's schedule and with Weber as our travel partner I thought I'd share a few tidbits. ISU and Weber open conference play in Ogden on Dec. 30. The return game is Jan. 27 in Pocatello.

Weber and ISU play Montana and Montana State only on the road this year, the last weekend of the season. Weber will close at Montana and then at MSU.

Weber and ISU will play Idaho and Eastern Washington only at home this season, on the penultimate weekend of the season. Weber will host EWU and then Idaho.

I'll take that. It would be great to play everyone twice, but I will take that schedule. We play four of the better teams only once. We will be more likely to sweep the rest of the pack. Not saying that we will, just more likely to get a sweep. UI and EWU are probably not liking it much.

They didn't seem to care when Weber played only at their house 2 years ago.

With UND leaving, this, hopefully, will be the last time we have to deal with such a crap conference schedule. We can only hope that the conference will play each team twice a year from now on. I don't mind having to just play on the road in Montana (return on the schedule from two years ago), but like I said then it hurts the conference when Weber and Montana only play once.

On other news and I'm shocked we haven't talked about this in depth yet (I'm thinking it was mentioned), but Weber will be playing a mid-major tournament in the bahamas the week before Thanksgiving. Here is a press release: https://cbbcentral.wordpress.com/2017/05/31/report-islands-of-the-bahamas-showcase-teams-released/.

Looks like it'll be a good field.

Saw that the mighty utes have released their schedule. Utah State is only on it because of the Utah Classic and of course there is a tip with BYU after the classic. We should all know that LK will not play Weber as long as Brekkot Chapman is suiting up for the Wildcats. That is also why we aren't scheduled to play the Utes until 2019 in the Utah Classic. LK had a fit over the possibility of having the two tangle as early as next year.

Schedule is out. As usual, it totally blows. 4 nonD1 homes games, including the exhibition game.

:ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Is this going to be the worst strength of schedule rating in Weber State history?

Its still better than last 3 years. We get 3 home D1 games. I like the road to game to Fresno St. I'm assuming that's a home and home. Same with the Arkansas Pine Bluff. Not bad. Our hardest game is probably BYU. Wish we could play the Utah MUTES though instead of one of our girl league church ball games.

Is that really the best we can get in a home and home? Pine Bluff went 7-25 last season and plays in probably the worst conference in the country. They're D1 in name only. :wall:

Pretty much. Aside from Utah State and Pepperdine, the home non-conference schedule offers little appeal to attend.

The responses here are quite predictable. Although slight, this schedule is better than the past few years. However, instead of recognizing that fact, you would rather continue to complain about something that has been hard to put together. I would rather acknowledge the improvement and continue to look for more improvements in the coming years.

The NCAA needs to address the situation that most mid-major programs are finding themselves in. For now, and maybe far into the future, the P5 programs are ruling the roost and the NCAA is a puppet. :coffee:

I understand the frustration. Yes, I would like more DI home games. Fact of the matter, the Big Sky is a considered a LOW Major conference. Big Sky schools are going to have a very hard time getting DI games on their home floors. RPI is a major factor, and even though Weber is the best in the league, our RPI isn't necessarily stellar. Other factor, most teams know that visiting the Dee usually ends up being a L on their record. They don't want to ding their RPI by losing to a team from a low major conference and definitely don't want an L. Final thing, our program doesn't have the $$$ to buy games. Look at the U, they can buy games and their schedule is very beat.

I like this because we have 9 DI games. 3 on our home floor, two away (both winnable), and four on neutral courts. Yes, the crap games are very LOL, but we all know Randy is going to play one before a major tournament and another before conference. Yes, having a third is a head scratcher, but the biggest complaint was home games last year. He got another one. 27 total DI games with three crap games isn't terrible. Besides, we do have a lot of young guys on the team and getting them some experience on the floor against West Coast Baptist isn't necessarily a bad thing.

USU is paying Youngstown State $90,000 for a game this season, and two days before the Penguins will play at ISU. ISU will pay them a very minimal amount ($10,000), but is paying for their hotel accommodations for at least 2 nights (I'm assuming this helps keep them in the area for an extra day or so). It still seems to me the regional schools (USU, Weber State, ISU, UVU...) could work together to attract some home games in this challenging scheduling environment. :twocents:

That is awesome that Youngstown is visiting Poky. Good non-conference DI game for the Bengals. Sounds like Evans has TD at USU to thank for the opportunity, but no matter, was able to work out a great deal for his team.

However, if you were Youngstown, which Big Sky school would you rather visit? You are already making 100K off of the trip, have lodging paid for and most likely USU is paying a good chunk of the travel cost. Would you really go to the Dee over the Holt in this situation? Getting a road win is the goal for Youngstown. They know beating USU at home is virtually impossible. So, why not pick up a W on the road trip? I hope ISU beats the Penguins, however, Youngstown is thinking their best chance at getting a road W is by playing ISU along with USU. If they came to Ogden, chances are good they leave with a L and are 0-2 after the trip. The goal is 2-0, but to leave 1-1 is good to. Go somewhere where they can get a win.

Personally, I'm sick of the same crap teams over and over and over again. West Coast Baptist, Black Hills State, and Presentation College? There are other NAIA and DIII schools. If you have to play beats, at least play somebody new or local.
