Can somebody give an honest answer to the amount of "full ride " scholarships UNC gives to football ?? I get conflicting numbers and would really like to know for sure!!

since a 1994 ncaa change in scholarship, div 1a /bcs schools have 85. i'm not certain, but i beleive 1aa/fcs get 63. they can spread them out any way they want. i believe unc has had 63 available to them since 2008-09 seasons, or this year and last.... not positive about that. but alas, we are not using them to our best interest. nor are we recruiting what we need. example, 5 qbs on roster? really? here? hmm....and we 're already offering qbs this year, 2 that i know of......we dont have 6 rb's on scholly!, how aout a fb. we got 2 here on scholly. one of them has no business being on a d1aa football field! how 'bout kickers? we have 4 on scholly! really? here? one bad weather group and a good weather group? it all starts up front, we have failed miserabaley. but that come's from the top, and runs down hill from there. please, take the head man down, now! bring us in a leader of men, and someone these guys will follow. i said it before, they aint drinking his koolaid, or swollowing his pill. 8-48? really, here? what a joke this program has become.... should be sent packin' back to the rmac, fast........

Ok so we have 63 available but or how many can UNC afford to pay "full Ride" ?? Yea that fullback position has something wrong ^&%($

How about using some imagination on offense at the fullback position. Eastern Washington used one of their D-tackles at fullback when they were in a short yardage or goal-line situation. Why don't the Bears use someone like Ethan Davis at fullback? I bet he could blow open some holes. Or what about using John Eddy in short yardage situations? If I remember correctly, wasn't he a fullback in high school? What about VJ Holmes - the kid's 6"3" 240.
Seems to me that UNC is like a number of 4A high schools. They don't have the number of players that 5A schools have so the 4A's use many of their players in multiple positions - offense and defense. Some of you out there will say you can't use a player both ways in college. I'm not talking about using them extensively at more than one position but in particular situations for a few plays here and there.
Then again, short yardage has not really been the main problem this season. I believe the Bears have converted a number of 3rd and 4th down situations. It's really 1st and 2nd downs that have been the problem. The offense needs to be less predictable on 1st and 2nd down. How about throwing the ball to set up the run and not waiting until the team is in a hole to loosen up the offense.
And how about blitzing our linebackers and safety at the beginning of the game? How about bringing John Eddy off the corner starting with the first defensive series of the game and not waiting until the second half. What about blitzing him or King from both sides of the D-line on every down? Disguise where they are coming from so you keep the offense confused. Of course if they do this they'll need to rely on their corners that, besides Askew, haven't been shutting anybody down this season.
Although it's really too late for anything that's going to get rid of the bad taste in everyone's mouths this season using some imagination on both sides of the ball might just get the Bears a season ending win and be a springboard for a good start next season.

Ya its 63, but whether UNC has money to pay or give all of those is unknown.

I agree Lippy, UNC hasn't addressed the needs of this team. This past signing UNC mostly signed defensive guys, and only signing I think 3 OL. I think the lack of depth at OL has forced these guys to play hurt. For some reason Schwindt has not been suiting up, anyone have info on the at?

It's obvious this team to need to address the OL needs, we need kids that are needed to compete at this level. Also need to address the secondary, and running game.

Schwindt has been out all year with a shoulder injury that will require surgery. We were hit by injuries to the o line and running backs. Josh Morton out for the year and John Burnley was academically ineligible.

Who is the other QB we are offering? I know the Cali kid, but who's the other?

Unless something has changed, we're giving out all 63 scholarships and have been for the last couple years.

The key word to learn with scholarships is "equivalency". For football, it's the equivalent of 63 scholarships to dole out, whether they split them apart or keep them all intact. So, no, not all of the players receiving a scholarship are getting a full one.

Thanks a bunch. Didn't want to sound naive but wanted to get the facts correct. Next question is, with keeping "equivalency" in mind, how do we compare with the rest of the big sky schools in regard to scholarship money ?? I'm guessing we need more scholarship money to compete with the Montana schools ??

I think the best way to provide support for UNC is with your check book. Seriously, I upped my donations. If you look around every conference, FCS and FBS the top teams have more donations then the bottom teams. You can donate online to various aspects of the athletic program like schollies, most needed, joe glenn scholarships, 1996 and 1997 national championship team scholarships, etc.

Yea I give a bunch now. My problem is convincing friends to up the ante and some of them are so full of apathy right now that they don't want to contribute any more until things change.
