Scrimmage #2

From what I saw at the scrimmage today, Knipp is your starter. He had the first 3 series with the 1's. Then Newsome, then Sloter. Berglund had his left arm in a sling and I heard that he's out for the year - injured making a tackle in practice. He's already had a medical red-shirt so don't know if he'll get another.

Knipp looked really good; poised, moves well with his eyes down field, throws bullets. It appears that it's his job to lose. Newsome is very quick to run, throws the ball too early, and looks scared. Sloter has a strong arm but looks to still be picking up the offense.

Thanks for the report. I'll be okay w/ either Knipp or Newsom - but how does each one take command of the huddle? It may come down to something like that.

How is the offensive line looking? From what I heard and read they're pretty banged up right now. Also, how was the kicking game?

Two weeks folks! Time to get pumped up!!!!!!

Both looked better today. The #1 kick return team produced a TD, Onic is electric.......pre-season all conference for a reason.

Got to feel bad for Berglund. The guy was very highly decorated coming out of high school, and I'm sure this is not how anyone thought it would end up. His career is probably over, but hopefully he gets into coaching, or some how stays in the game in some capacity.

I went to the scrimmage and came away feeling pretty good. The Bears didn't always look good, but there were numerous small things that were executed correctly, or at least with effort that I have not yet witnessed at a UNC scrimmage. Not many negatives. Here's what I believe were the positives:
1. Coach Collins appeared to be more in control. Instead of screaming, yelling, and looking (and acting) frustrated, he looked composed and confident. He was definitely in control. Good job Head Coach.
2. Coach Kerr looked more animated than ever. Quick to point out missed assignments, and quick to point out well executed reads and efforts.
3. The hurry up offense looked relaxed. Kudos to Coach Boyer. Only a couple of times did I see the offense look rattled. I am sure that Coach Boyer will learn more about when to vary the tempo.
4. Good enthusiasm on the sidelines.
5. The special teams looked vastly improved. Coach Cummings has done an awesome job.
6. You can tell that both the O-line and D-line have more depth. More depth means more competition at practice.
Numerous Bears stood out, but the most important thing is that the team looked together. From the walking wounded to the starters, it looked like a team.
I have a good feeling about the season. In an earlier post I said they would get 2 to 3 wins. If improvements continue to be made, my revised prediction is 8-3.
Go Bears!
