Sears Fired

GAS...not a conspiracy theory...that is EXACTLY why Orr is here. Without question the biggest upside to his hiring is that he feels the need to bring this football program to a respectable level so he can use that success to move on up the food chain. I can't imagine anyone will have a problem with that if/when he makes that happen. Everybody wins.
I do not know Coach Collins and I have no knowledge regarding the Charlotte situation, so I have no opinion on those views. I agree with absolutely everything else you stated.
Thank you.

One name I haven't heard mentioned is former Hornet Darren Arbet. He's turned Cabrillo College around after a wildly successful run in the Arena Football League. I think Taylor is a great idea but more than likely trending upward at the FBS level.

Good post GAS. I wouldn't call Orr wanting his guy as HC a conspiracy theory. It's pretty typical for ADs looking to implement their plan/vision wanting to do so with their guy. It would also have been a bad look had he not resigned Sears following the 2017 season which garnered the most BSC wins (and COTY for Sears) in program history. The fact that Orr set things up so he could make a change immediately if things went back to dumpster fire status tells us Orr never had Sears in his long term plans. That's fine, he's in charge so that's his call, and in this case it's the right move.

It's anybody's guess what Orr's long term career goals are, but I agree that he doesn't get there if he can't make a mark while at Sac State. The only way he can make a mark is bringing in a HC that can have sustained success at FB. The other way is by playing a large part in getting an events center built and having a successful MBB program emerge. It should also be noted that Nelsen is also looking to build his legacy here as well, and Nelsen would not have hired an AD with contradicting long term goals.

As far as the next HC, not sure a JC guy helps Nelsen/Orr make their mark. We tried a JC guy already. No thanks on going that route again. And if Nelsen was fine with the JC approach, then Macriss would have never been ousted as AD as he is on record as stating Sac State as being a place that would ideally gets its coaches from the local JC ranks. The JC approach conflicts with actions and decisions already made at the highest level so I'm not buying that mindset.

Assuming there would be limited interest in the Hornet HC position is small minded and short sighted, but I would think there are plenty of coaches that would be interested in a D1 HC position both regionally and nationally. There will only be so many open D1 HC positions in any given year, and yes I agree that we will not out spend a top G5 or P5 position (HC or coordinator). That doesn't mean there aren't any qualified coaches interested that would fit Orr's vision.

Appreciate it everyone...

...and if the interview from Orr is accurate, we should know who our next Head Football Coach (aka, our future happiness) is in a few days here! :D
