SEARS IS GONE

I think Nick Howell gets some consideration if he's interested. He's a Weber and Ben Lomand grad. Bovee is a Ben Lomand grad as well. Howell has spent all of his coaching career in Utah, and BYU has a hell of a defense, although he has only been DC this season.

of course hes gone, he Never was the guy. He just happened to be here when John L bolted.

Hopefully phlu is inserted as HC asap. There is no reset button here

With the continual talk of "pressing the reset button again" or 4 coaches in x years, this is an overlooked point. Weber didn't ask for the satin situation or go through a typical search for Sears to be HC, he did happen to be here and I'm sure seemed like a convenient way to hopefully help stop the bleeding. Bonus if Sears pans out to be an effective HC. Like many others have stated, Sears seems like a genuinely good guy, however, he really hasn't demonstrated that he's much of a talent as a HC. A few weeks ago I happened to catch a Sears interview followed by a Gary Andersen interview. Sears sounded nothing like a football coach typically does, whereas, Andersen sounded the part to a tee. Talking the talk is one thing and walking the walk is another, but watching almost two years of Sears' program with virtually little improvement combined with an uninspiring interview sure doesn't make me believe he's was the right guy.

Is Pflu? Or, could it be the same situation over again? I really don't know. What is really known about Pflu's ability? He hasn't impressed as the OC and isn't too far behind Sears in having his own recruits. His resume sparkles with UM headlining it, but come on, the Montana program and players may as well be on the next level in comparison to Weber. I think you could stick nearly anyone in at Montana (even Sears  I am just kidding!) and they would do just fine. It would be an advantage to have someone with BSC coaching experience and a year already under their belt in Weber's program but what's to say it's not similar to bringing Sears in, part II?
Well said

One could argue that there were a lot of qualified FBS assistant coaches who pursued the job last time but Bovee opted instead for the big-name hire in John L. Does he take the same approach again or does he give a lesser name a chance?

Follow the plan you used when you hired Rahe, and you should be able to hire a good head football coach.

Minimum. Experience at a higher level. Experience as the top assistant. Experience in a successful program. Experience in building a program. A laid out, thoughtful approach to rebuilding your football program considering your situation as an FCS university competing for athletes in a state dominated by FBS programs, including a plan and understanding of, how to use the missionary program to your advantage.

Oh, and don't worry about the fact that if your new hire is successful, he'll be hired away, because that will happen. But, insure that there will be a plan in place to prepare an assistant to take his place if your head coach does leave.

 Good advice

What if we are looking in all the wrong places?

You guys have all pointed out great candidates but they are not going to be interested. Let's be real why would a DC / OC of a big name school want to come to Weber State and take a chance on ruining the rest of their careers? Plus the other side is we don't have the budget to pay them.

I do assume that we have a bigger budget then other big sky schools like North Dakota, Idaho State, Southern Utah etc. why don't we look there and try to take one of there head coaches?

Ed Lamb, the SUU coach could be a perfect pick up. He has led Southern Utah back into the FCS playoffs this year. He knows how to recruit in state, look what James Cowser did to us this year when he was up here. Plus if we have a bigger budget then SUU we should be able to pay him more.

It could possibly work.

Need more info. on Pflu
I know he was fired at Montana for off the field issues. If he is hired as the HC, that baggage comes with him.
What were the issues at Montana? Were they substantiated? Would he be in the running for the Weber job?

It was never stated what he was fired for, most UM fans think he got the shaft. As UM was being investigated by the NCAA, and everyone else at the time and needed a fall guy.

That being said one reason he was probably let go was for verbally supporting his QB JJ, who at the time was going to trial for allegedly raping a girl. Jordan has since been aquited of all charges and although he might be a dirtbag was innocent of the charges. As we all know he was re-instated this year as the starting QB for the Griz. Theres a day's worth of reading on the Griz forum about it.

The other is assumed to be a lack of control, Bobby's (Hauck) players were not the most honorable upright citizens in the community, these players Phlu inherited and probably should have cleaned house a bit (granted he probably helped recruit some of these guys too)

I would assume he is in the running for the job, he's been a long term OC at UM, and successful HC there for the 2 years he was in-charge after Hauck left.

A-Rod is not in the running. He makes way more money at Utah now than what WSU could ever really offer him. Unless the new pres is raising the football coach's salary by 3 times of what it was last year. Or maybe Whit is gonna start cleaning house a bit. Other than that I don't see it.
