Season Ticket Renewal

So, got my season ticket renewal form ... YESSS (always makes me smile) and noticed something that is sure to aggravate our Grizz buddies. Unless you're an Eagle Athletic Association member, you have to pay an additional amount for the Montana game. Now I know that they were pissing and moaning about this last year so I expect that they will continue along the same lines this year, but there's a couple of things that I don't understand about their objections and maybe someone else can explain it to me.

First, our season tickets are pretty reasonable by any other schools standards ($125 flat fee if you're also a EAA member in good standing throughout the football season; $125 + $55 for the UM game if you have the senior, junior or family season tickets). So basically you get a break if you are contributing to the EAA and the priority to purchase seats is given according to the level of your membership -- pretty standard stuff for booster support/donors. The featured game is the rivalry game (I suspect that it's the same for other schools ticket pricing whether it's FBS, FCS, or Division III). For some reason, UM folks find this outrageous and act as though they are being treated differently than other fanbases. I don't get it.

Second, they will complain about having to pay either $180 or $125 plus $10 a month to join the EAA, but then out of the other side of their mouth they mock other schools who don't sell their season tickets for as much as they do their own.

Then again, they can always wait until the tickets go on sale to the general public on September 4th and buy single game seats, but every year there are complaints that they are being mistreated in some fashion and how it's so unfair because, as demonstrated by the ROOT sports schedule, we all know that they, and they alone, carry the Big Sky Conference.

They will undoubtedly bitch about it again, but I really don't have much sympathy after seeing how much their ticket prices are in their place...and again, everyone outside the EAA is payimg those prices, not just UM folks.

I have been told that there are a few issues with the $55 tickets in the season ticket package and wanted to address it.

The $55 for the Montana game is only for the lowest priced season tickets (Family Pack of 5, Senior Rate, and Junior Rate). The adult or alumni season tickets will include the Montana-EWU game.

The majority of season ticket holders will not pay the additional $55 per ticket, as they purchase as regular adult or alumni (which includes the Montana-EWU game).

The reasoning behind this was to prevent someone (say a scalper) from purchasing 30 family packs @ $150 each. This would mean 150 tickets would be sold at $4,500 total (instead of the actual price of $8,250 just for a 150 Montana-EWU tickets). It would have also shut out lots of fans who otherwise would have purchased Montana-EWU tickets.

BTW, I should have mentioned that Troy is doing a great job with the ticket office.

I do have one question, is whoever is in charge of game day management going to open the gates earlier this year? Seemed like long lines formed for no reason, people had to stand in them when they could have been doing more productive things like spending money at the concessions, bookstore stand or tailgating -- and most importantly, it could turn away the more casual fan from coming back for more games. Seems like an easy fix to part of the game day experience.

I do have one question, is whoever is in charge of game day management going to open the gates earlier this year? Seemed like long lines formed for no reason, people had to stand in them when they could have been doing more productive things like spending money at the concessions, bookstore stand or tailgating -- and most importantly, it could turn away the more casual fan from coming back for more games. Seems like an easy fix to part of the game day experience.

Hannah, as always, I appreciate your concern on this because it is my concern as well. We have a game management meeting prior to each home game and discuss what time to open. After the long line from the Montana State game (and home opener) last year, we opened our gates at 1 1/2 hours early instead of the usual 1 hour. However, it wouldn't matter if we opened 5 hours early, because everyone comes at the last minute.

Really this is a phenomena I've witnessed throughout the Inland NW with movies, sporting events, concerts, etc. Everyone waits until the very last minute to arrive, then I see complaints over the lines. We are looking into improving the gate up above, to get more people through the lines, but when people decide to stop tailgating 2 minutes prior to kick in mass, it creates a log-jam.

I will bring up your concern at our monday meeting (I've done so with any other issue that people have emailed or posted on this board to me specifically). My e-mail is [email protected] if anyone has gameday questions/concerns/ideas for improvement.

BTW - we are whacking a lot more of the bees in the fields around the tailgating this year. This was a major concern with grounds (along with a dead coyote that kalm had to deal with). FYI
