Seattle at Portland State

Nice comeback, eh?

Oh yeah.

There was some u-g-l-y basketball by us tonight.

First off. Damn nice dunk by Trent of SU. Wish our mystery video board was working to see that one again.

If SU would have shot just a bit better, they would have won with ease.

Nice to see us beat a bigger team.

Teef struggled tonight. 7 TOs. Not good. I have faith, as the kid has talent.

Harthun: Killers kill by shooting bullets. Pop and shoot buddy, pop and shoot. He's a shooter and needs the mentality of a shooter. There was a few times that he had space tonight where I think he should have just taken the three.

Nate: He's way better than last year. Footwork I think is still an issue, but damn, he was running the floor early in the game. Not so much late, but if he can lead the break at times like he did early in the game, it should be a bonus.

Tapscott: Beast tonight. I think it was late in the 1st half that he had that play where he knocked the ball off of SU to get us the possession. Seemed to change the game prior to the half. On top of that, he hit the game winning free throws.

This team needs more time to gel. I still want a couple more minutes from Cataldo. 8 minutes played, and he had a couple of big rebounds. Oh yeah, and Harvey is very athletic.

I think I've rambled enough. :-p

You pretty much said it all... except for one non-game related thing. Anybody see that guy hit THREE half court shots during the halftime pizza shoot? Might need to get him on scholarship just in case a half courter is needed.

It might be nice to have Cataldo play more minutes, Marty, but last night he played 8 minutes and picked up 3 fouls (and no points). He fouls regularly. Yes, this is typical freshman behavior and the way to improve it is to let him learn, but 8-10 minutes is about all we can afford in the average game.

Good point.

He did have a couple of rebounds, and those were defensive rebounds on the block where we were outsized.

My point is this. He's a freshman, yes, he'll foul, and he has. I'd rather him have a couple more minutes in non-conference play and learn, so that he's better in the event of an injury or we just need more minutes from him in conference play. One point wins early in the season are great against Seattle, one point wins against UM or WSU put us closer to the tourney...

Reading this brought back memories of Greg Oden's rookie season.
