I just can't buy into the fact that we can't get home/home arrangements out of other FCS teams. That doesn't even make sense. We've played home and homes with the likes of Stephen F. Austin and Texas State in the past. We had a home/home arrangement with Nicholls State and never got a return trip? We once paid Illinois State just to play us at home. I don't understand why these scheduling options weren't better than taking a one-time shot on the road with a lesser team.

If we're going to travel all the way to Vermillion, why not find someone like Drake or some easier FCS opposition that basically guarantees us a win? Why do we always match up with power conference teams? I get it for a home/home, but if we're just filling a game for minimal money, that makes little sense.

Lastly, why is Cal Poly even considered a home/home? If they are a conference opponent starting in 2012, wouldn't that game be dictated by the conference? I mean, saying were taking Cal Poly on a home/home arrangement with a home game in 2012 is like saying we're taking Idaho State on a home/home and playing them at home in 2012.

Because the home and home with CP was scheduled before CP was invited to join the BSC.

This, and while we're on the topic - with this huge new Big Sky that basically consists of all the western FCS schools, it's highly likely that there's going to be Big Sky teams playing one another during years they're not scheduled to play conference games just to fill up the schedule. Funny thing is, those games will count towards overall W/L, but not as conference games.

Everyone who is complaining about the schedule:
Either you feel the powers that be didn't try hard enough to get the schedule you wanted, or they were malicious in their actions and trying to damage the program.
I am of the opinion Chaves, Baldwin and ?? did the best they could to get the best possible schedule to move the program forward.
My bottom line is, it is what it is, so lets make the most of it and move on.

I got the lowdown on what happened here. Apparently, everyone and their dog was willing to play us in week #1, but the UW thing was locked up and immovable. The only NW opponent that we could get for week #2 at home was Central, who was willing to move their schedule around to accommodate us. The other option was to sacrifice our week #9 bye week and play 10 straight up until playoffs start.

Neither option was very attractive... Central is D-II, but that's a no-win situation because they are a good D-II, capable of romping many of those East Coast FCS teams (see St. Francis, Bryant, Monmouth, Mississippi Valley State, or basically the entire NEC, Pioneer League, MEAC, or SWAC.) Coach Baldwin saw that Central is good enough to surprise when they play well and at least have an opportunity to beat you up physically in a game that doesn't offer much reward, only risk.

Therefore, Eastern took a small payout to play on the road. I still question why we could get one of those crappy FCS programs like Drake that still draw decent crowds to offer us a game, but it is what it is. And truth be told, we should crush South Dakota... they aren't very good. You just never want to stick a team in a foreign environment early in the season, and that's what we've done.

Thanks for insight Dopa. That's exactly what I suspected, so while it would be nice to play a Drake at home, as long as that's not a possibility, we really opted for the best situation offered.

I heard they looked to try and swith the cal poly home and home as well but it didn't work out. The issue is most D2 schools were already booked and we don't have a lot of FCS out of conference options on the west coast. I don't like the S. Dakota game because playing on the road is tough no matter what (see EWU/N. Col. last year), but it is what it is, and we will make the best of it.
