Beavers QB Collins is set to transfer out of Corvallis. Could he fit in at PSU?

There will be other former Beavers leaving as the Riley recruits who don't fit in to Anderson's system start to filter out. If they fit in to Barnum's style of play, I think it is in their best interests, as well as PSU, to come here. They won't have to sit out a year, they can play right away. I think it is a great opportunity for us to keep the momentum rolling and I am sure Barnum and his assistants are monitoring the OSU situation.

I can't imagine Barnum dumping Kuresa from QB in his senior year replacing him with Collins. It sounds like Collins was being a good team member, playing where he was asked to, but wants to play QB. If he can't play right away he probably wouldn't be interested it would seem. But heck what do I know.

One area that doesn't seem to be talked about is running back. I really think PSU needs a big durable back to replace the loss of David Jones.

Collins would have three years eligibility, Kuresa has just next year. Also, if he transfers anywhere in FBS, Collins has to sit out next year. He comes here, he can play right away in Barnum's dual threat, dual quarterback system alongside Kuresa while learning Barnum's system, then stepping in after Kuresa's senior season. This is the player who hurdled over the Weber defender in their opener last year (I believe the play was wiped out by penalty, but impressive nonetheless). Also, Kuresa himself came here when BYU wanted him to switch to receiver. Collins could be a good one to groom for when Kuresa moves on after next year. I'd rather have him here than Montana or EWU.

From what I'm hearing, Anderson may be letting up to 15 of Riley's former recruits transfer. For any of them, transferring to another FBS school means sitting out a year and losing a year of eligibility. By transferring to PSU (or any FCS school), they can play right away and not lose that year. I am confident that Barnum and his coaches are keeping tabs on the OSU situation, monitoring those who wish to transfer, and who can best help us here.

We also have Aidan Wilder and Thomas Hamilton waiting in the wings. Wilder will be a sophomore and Hamilton redshirted last season. Maybe we can bring in Collins and have him, Wilder and Hamilton learn under the tutorage Alex and Paris Penn, then move into the starting rolls, then tutor their successors.

Maybe FCS would be more his speed, but Collins just isn't that impressive as a QB. He's fantastic on his feet, but he is less than stellar as a passer. He didn't look very comfortable against Weber State if that indicates anything.

I was noticing that Wilder wasn't listed on the 2016 roster. Was he dropped from the team or did he transfer?

He has transferred to Western Oregon (per his Instagram account)
