Next up, Stephen F. Austin, 1-1 so far (beat Incarnate Word 38-3/lost to Kansas St 55-16), predicted to be in middle of pack-Southland. On the road, can Wildcats show improvement with a step forward, let's hope so. First win of the season? :coffee:

I sure hope so (first win), that's another thing this new team needs to learn how to do. The 1st Q at SAC was a head scratcher. The other 3 quarters were much more respectable, just too many mistakes and bone head penalties. With SFA, if they can clean some things up this week and come out of the gate playing good football, including a better mix of pass/rush, a win is certainly possible.

Hard to call this one, as we really don't know how good SFA is, given their schedule so far. Lost big to a FBS, won big over a transitional FCS, and won big over a D2. I'll take Weber though, based on us beating them last season. Here's their fan forum: http://lumberjackfans.com/home/

Weber needs to learn how to stop the run. Our defense looked good at times on Saturday and then didn't. Not only does the defense need to limit teams rushing ability, but the Cats also need to learn how to run. Having Wilcox and Bolen both out doesn't help the Cats much. I don't have much faith. I wouldn't doubt it if we are 0-4 next week at this time.

Gave up too many big runs, including that 70 yard run for a TD in the 1st quarter. That one was a killer. Also gave up runs of 42, 30, 22, and 18 yards. Sac only averaged 2.6 yds/carry on their 32 other rushing attempts.

Some of Coach Hill's comments re: Sac St game: "team looked like something that played last year...no heart, no passion, came out slow...this one hurt because making same mistakes we made in first two games...until we get those fixed, we're not going to win...we have got to fix personal foul penalties...killing us right now..." First quarter implosion, only +3 yards on the ground? Need the fix to start happening in Texas this week!!! Critical time in WILDCATS development (as QB Green said, there's hope - team showed some fight the rest of the game...just have to clean up their play). :wall:

Best & Last (?) chance for a non-conf win...next up is SUU in Cedar City in what will undoubtedly be an emotional game in so many ways...SUU likely to be 0-4 coming in to that after serving up the first win for Fresno St this week...T-birds will be hungry & mad! Let's do it 'Cats!!!!!

Right, that's what I saw too; decent job on the run overall, but cannot constantly give up the big runs. The lack of contain on the ends was bad at times but the killers were right up the gut.

Besides the slow start, I was pleased with how we fought hard and came back. The offense is more then capable of winning this game with the passing ability of Green. This will be another hard fought game.

Go Weber!

This is a winnable game for WSU and I hope they can get it done. Even after watching this game in person last year, I have no clue how WSU beat SFA. Anywho, lets get the W again.
Also dont look now but SUU has fallen apart since we stole their coaches. :thumb:

SUU has fallen apart since we stole their coaches.

It's pay back for the 2011 win during MAC's last season. The SUU loss was probably the game that had the most to do with his exit. I still think we should have kept MAC, but this team looks ready for a turn around season.

Go WEber!!!

My prediction: if Weber wins the first quarter, they win the game. They've been bad in first quarters this season, but pretty dang good after that. Need to put four full quarters together to win.

Also need to improve in the run game (need more balance, as has been mentioned), and in stopping the run. Dead last in the conference in both categories. Not good news versus SFA. RB Gus Johnson averages 8.9 yards/carry and 136.3 yards/game.

The Cats have got to get off the snide and get a W this weekend. I really don't see SFA as being that much improved over the team the Cats beat last year, while I do feel the Cats are a far better program. The loss to Sacramento has really hurt and I'm not part of the team. Weber was the better team in California, even though I think Sacramento might be better than a lot of people suspected; including me. Jody might get another contract by the end of the season. The Sacramento State game aside. SFA hasn't been overly impressive. They do have two wins, but against pretty awful competition. Sac destroyed Incarnate Word and Weber should have beaten Sac in Sac. Whereas, SFA handily beat Incarnate, they didn't do it nearly as badly as Sac did. Also, SFA got beat by Kansas State who was losing to Iowa State, a team manhandled by NDSU, who the Cats played respectfully. I really feel that SFA is a team the Cats should beat. This game should be a W.

Weber:
Arizona State #19
North Dakota State
Sacramento State

Stephen F. Austin:
Kansas State #20
Incarnate Word (FCS Transition team, destroyed by both NDSU and Sac).
Texas A&M Commerce (DII)

Weber has played the harder schedule, and for the most part, has done a really solid job, but hasn't gotten a W yet. SFA, has played a decent schedule and has earned two W's. Since the game is in Texas, that might throw the Cats a bit and give a little more of an edge towards SFA. However, I think the Cats get their running game going, maybe run more dives and traps through the center and guards. The tackles are the softest part of the line. All the sacks this season have come off the ends. Regardless, I feel the Cats can leave Texas with a game in the win column.

The Cats will keep improving their passing game. Green had 377 passing yards in Sac, on 36-60, but probably should have had a lot more. Too many dropped balls. I think as the season goes on we will see less of that happening.

On defense, the Cats have got to stop the run. To much is being given up on big runs. As has been pointed out by other members, the Cats do a good job for the most part, but keep giving up big plays, which has been killing us. Weber has got to stop the big plays. I think the LBs are the biggest weakness right now but are quickly becoming one of our strongest areas. DBs and Safeties are doing a great job so far. Limit turnovers and create more opportunities will really help out the Cats.

Here we go WEBER! Looks like a good feed.
