According to Channel 8, he'll be meeting with AD tomorrow to discuss his future at PSU.

Regarding the poll question, I'm somewhat uncertain. On the one hand, everything is lost anyways. Fans gone, morale at an all-time low. Might as well try another year and see if Jerry's super secret plan works out then. On the other hand, I can see no secret plan work without an OC and a DC. So we might as well say bye to Jerry and rebuild (again).

No matter if this is going to happen this year or next year: PSU needs to be ready to dramatically increase salaries for the coaching staff and assistants if we want to go somewhere. We don't need a superstar head coach - we need a decent and motivated coaching *team*. Administration has done a lot of things right in the last years - I hope they don't give up now.

I think Glanville is completely off his rocker. Who runs a football program without an OC or DC? He needs to retire back to Georgia. He'd still make a great TV Color man. He is like that crazy uncle that you love but wouldn't let anywhere near the family business. I honestly think he is a bit nuts.

Who runs a seldom used passing qb versus a running qb that we have given their worst rushing defense in the country. Two FBs and CK could have rolled today. Shame..

and Canzano has something as well...

I'm working through plusses and minuses.

Glanville was hired to bring more attention to the program. That's still a plus, folks.

The attention is supposed to bring higher attendance. Second worst TICKETS SOLD rate in 22 years. Definite minus.

On the field- minus.

One thing that really bugs me- Glanville runs out a bunch of kids, then complains that he needs four more years to be judged because there's a bevy of freshmen. Most coaches don't get this kind of slack. That little slip-in really rubbed me the wrong way.

HOWEVER- I'm also in favor of four years out of principle. This group as sophomores instead of freshman really would indicate whether the program CAN progress.

The money- is it there? My thought- if it was, we'd have already got the news that he was fired. I do have a faint pit-in-stomach thought that PSU could be assessing whether to cancel football altogether. Mitigation- if that happens, it's definitely bye-bye Big Sky, and quite possibly bye-bye D-1. I don't think PSU is going there, but thought it might merit mention. So I suspect Glanville practically has to be here another year... because the claims of a restart for 4 years and that silly comment about hanging with the Montanas and Weber have wiped out an earlier thought I had that Glanville might actually resign. Heck no. He's fighting for this job. If it comes out that he resigns, I will offer that his alternatives were worse. One more- the wildcard- the nagging thought in the back of my mind is that Glanville ended up without coordinators because the school half-assed it. Probably didn't happen that way, but for some reason I can't shake the thought.

If I could afford to ship him off, I probably would. He should go, but we can't afford to. Ack.

What gets me is how Glanville keeps saying that PSU is in a rebuilding status, as if he inherited the team like that or it is out of his control. The only PSU is rebuilding is that he tore down what Walsh had built instead of just topping it off with a final piece or two. No one in the media seems to call Glanville on this and it drives me nuts.

Exactly Chip!!

Glanville was disrespectful to his players, his staff, and what goes around comes around! The talent was ALWAYS there. Mouse knew exactly what was going on, and that's why he left! This isn't speculation, its fact that no one wants to believe!! Glanville will get the boot because his Karma is coming back to him. I will be the first to say that disrespect gets you nowhere, thus..goodbye Glanville & his goons because he disrespected OUR program. You'd be a fool to believe otherwise. Stop looking at percentages and get real! Stop believing the man needs 4 years to turn around a program. We are gonna need one hell of a coach to bring back the fan's that Glanville ran off. I suggest you bring back Lupfer's defensive tenacity for starters! ranked nationally in 2006 to three years bottom of the list, 4th chance my a** GoodBYE SHAMVILLE!

Very true, ManofVision.

Well, as I'm sure you've all heard, PSU has fired JG this afternoon (according to a source cited by Adam Bjaranson). Apparently they have the money and guts to do it. According to Channel 8, they are already approaching potential replacements. Adam says a statement will be released tomorrow.

I'm not cheering, but I think it was the right decision.

I am not cheering either. This is very painful for the players, fans and assistant coaches. A lot of damage has been done but we can now turn the page and bring in someone who will bring a fresh start. It seems like 3 years were just flushed away. I am glad that PSU has the guts to make the change. One more year would have taken that much more out of the program.

Very sad, indeed. So much optimism when it started, but like a bad marriage, I think it needed to end.

Wow - he's a crappy coach and definitely not the right guy to move your program forward. But take it from a guy who's favorite college team (MSU Bobcats) just went through a really bad divorce a few years ago. On the surface, firing Mike Kramer was the right thing to do, but it has led to an awful lot of headache as well. He has sued MSU for breach of contract, claiming that the school had defaced his name, leading to a lack of future job opportunities. Three years later, this case has not been resolved between the two parties. Coach Rob Ash is a good coach, and I'm glad we have him. But we have paid a price because of all the negative press surrounding Kramer. Also, Coach Kramer was a very big rah-rah guy; our program flourished because of him and attendance was at an all time high. The excitement has not been there with Coach Ash, although we continue to win ball games.

Granted, these are two different situations. If you fire JG, you hope he has enough class to just accept a settlement and move. However, if he had any class, he probably would have moved on his own accord by now, realizing that he was not accomplishing what he set out to do. If I was the PSU AD or president, I would just let JG finish out his contract (only one year), and let him go after next season. Then you can wipe the slate clean and start anew. I know, I know, it could be very painful going through another season with JG, but you have to look at the overall long-term betterment of your program. PSU is paying JG $180,000 which is a pretty big salary for the Big Sky; it's almost double what MSU pays Coach Ash. If you let him go, your still gonna have to pay him his money, which probably leaves you with less funds to go out and hire an attractive coach. You may end up just settling for someone, and eventually be in the same position, or worse, than you're in now. Let JG finish out his year, and then kindly show him the door and never look back.

Good points...divorces can be nasty. However, I doubt that Glanville would become too public about the whole affair because a winning percentage of 27% in FCS is nothing he would want discussed too much in the media. I think he'll try to forget the whole episode as quickly as possible.

One reason why AD decided to let JG go now is probably because they want to take advantage of the attention JG has brought to the program. Even though he failed to fill the stands, he sure got people talking about PSU. Let's hope Portland will remain interested in a post-Glanville rebuilding team.

Salary: I hope the next head coach will make less money than JG. The difference could be used to pay the assistants a living wage... ;)
