Should PSU join the WAC?

Getting 15,000 a game should NOT be a miracle. Glanville very likely won't hurt that effort.

If PSU averages 15,000 a year next year, talk WILL start.

I think 15K will be a reality for the first home game, just because of the excitement. If they win, the attendance for the next game will probably also be that high. However, if there are some ads, and the away games are on tv, I think people will take an active interest in following the team. I would like to see 15K for every game, and every seat filled for the MSU game, with the exception of the two for Elvis.

15K a game for 5 years and then their chances of a move will be much greater.

maybe if JG makes a miracle happen here in portland

JG and now MD! I think PSU has a chance to do some great things in the future and joining the WAC is very possible!

Lots of things have to happen off the football field but anything is possible.

Thanks! we have proved we can compete onthe field, but 8,000 fans a game won't work at the I-A level, hopefully JG can bring fans to the games

That would be something PSU will obviously need to improve on but trust me, Glanville and Davis will put PSU back on the map. They will definitely bring more interest into the football program. They did a wonderful job helping June Jones build Hawaii into a powerhouse and I'm sure they'll do the same for PSU! I for one will definitely be following PSU football to see how they do right off the bat!

Montana is a heck of a team that can beat a lot of d-1 teams but just be patient. I actually wouldn't be suprised if you beat 'em this season! BTW, us Warrior fans remember opening day in 2000 like it was yesterday. Hopefully Hawaii can play PSU sometime in the near future! BTW, Hawaii beat Montana on opening night in 2001!

That game was on Maui! Not on Oahu.

Wyoming's coach was the HC for Montana that day. /users/31/07/37/smiles/icon9.gif

Personally, I hope PSU never goes to the WAC or 1-A for that matter. There are no playoffs in 1-A (which is my biggest pet-peeve in college sports) and it is an extremely corrupt league. Think about it: What kind of respect does PSU get in 1-AA? Do you really think PSU will get ANY respect in 1-A??? I think PSU would do well to stay in 1-AA permanently.

True, I'm not in a big hurry to get there anyway

1-A is dominated by a money-hungry and hypocritically unprincipled BCS... but here's the rub. Corrupt? The NCAA does not have the resources to really go after schools, but they have the punishments to really deep-six schools if they want. Most schools are honest, and self-report their violations, so that they only lose a few scholarships rather than a lot (or their whole program). Meanwhile, there are semi-undocumented incidents where NCAA can't get their investigators through to a situation. A few BIG schools may be getting away with stuff short of murder. (NOTE: I use the standard that just because someone is greedy does NOT mean they're corrupt- you may arrive at a different conclusion.)

1-AA is not a place to get your budget healthy... unless you drop football, or at least draw like Montana. There's a strong reason a lot of football programs at this level get dropped.

D-2- it's so far below the radar that experts believe it IS corrupt.

D-3- they say there's no scholarships. Well, there apparently aren't athletic scholarships, but I wonder what kind of things could be unearthed at this end (and I'm not the only one). Mind you, 99% of these schools aren't rich enough to pull off dastardly things, which is why they're D-3. That's probably the one pure "amateur" level of college athletics.

My point: the bottom is doable, the top is doable if you can afford it, everyone else gets the shaft. Funny how this works.

I-A and the WAC should be a goal in the medium- to long-term. For now, PSU should concentrate on laying the groundwork by building the fan base, attracting more sponsors and media coverage, and improving the stadium/gameday atmosphere. Working out those kinks will make the WAC seek out PSU.

Good point. Rome wasn't built in a day.

One key I think is corporate dollars. Great news to hear that the luxary boxes are all sold out for the season already. Does anyone know how the box sales were for the past few seasons?
