• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Should we host our own board?

I have been thinking for a while that maybe we should think about hosting our own board. Basically, similar to EGRIZ or Bobcatnation.com. I am looking into what it would involve, but the main reason would be to have a site that we have full control over. The fanplay boards are awesome, but sometimes I feel like it's not "ours".

If/when I decide to do something like this, it is possible that we could just use the same software, and "import" all of the users/posts/etc. if Chris, the owner of these sites allowed us to do so. So basically, it would be transparent to everyone if/when we moved to this new format. Nobody would need to re-register, etc.

I guess my other question would be would you all want to keep the "Red Zone" name, or change it to something different?

Just a thought that I have been thinking about for a while. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks for the input. Another option might just be to stay in the fanplay family and create something like wyonation.com. I contacted Chris to see what some options might be, but I'm thinking he's not around since he doesn't respond to any PM's.

My first reaction, if Chris owns FanPlay why would be be cooperative in giving it away?
The biggest problem with Red Zone is the lack of active contributors. How would making a change improve that?

I like what we've got. Unless you could point to some sort of significant upgrade, I'd say why bother?

I don't know that it'd be a significant upgrade. My guess is that it'd be much like this, except that the admins would have a lot more control over the look and feel of the site. As it is right now, if we want to request changes or anything, it all has to go through Chris. Not the most ideal situation.

Ranger,

I appreciate your wanting to take the board to the next level. My first priority, however, would be to get more people involved on this site. I really found this board by accident and have enjoyed other fans perspectives and expertise and wonder if there is a way to lead more people to the site. With our continued improvement in attendance it seems to me that we will continue to build participation on our fan board as we'll.

Isn't Chris a Grizzz guy? I say we gtfo. I'm right behind you ranger. I don't see how staying in this format brings in anymore traffic.

Also, if this site has any correlation with cs.com I say we bail. My privacy and trust were hugely breached by the mods over there.

i agree something like the same format but separate from the big sky fan page would be cool.

I also found this board by accident this year. Enjoy you guys, not sure how or why but Egriz sure seems more active, but there are also double the fan base. I'm not convinced moving the site would make a lick of difference in that. This work here, and nothing here would scare anyone off.

I also found Anygivensaturday and enjoy that board as well with regards to the big FCS picture stuff. (that was just a side note)

Wonder if the administrators in the athletic dept would consider this site an asset. If so would they allow a link on the Goeags.com? If so many are finding the forum "by accident" that may garner a lot more exposure. How could that be anything less than positive for all sports programs.

I emailed the web/media guy a year or two ago asking if he could add a link, and never got a reply, however a link here was added.

Edit: Looks like the link is no longer there.

This forum sat unused for the better part of two years until I rallied everyone from the old site in early 2010. It's slowly but surely grown since then.

Hey ewusisterfan... do you think VA would mind getting the word out about the forum... I know he has quite the following. ;)

If hosting our own board would eliminate all these spammers I'm all for it...this is getting old real quick!

That's really surprising and troubling...they seem like a pretty good group. Did you contact Chris, the owner?

I like the functionality of this site and don't like changing things I'm used to and having to learn a new format.

It's way easier to use and figure out than AGS in my opinion. :twocents:
