Senior wide receiver Patrick Walker had a stellar career as a member of the UNC football team, and he has one more opportunity to showcase his talents.
Walker was selected to the Football Championship Subdivision Senior Scout Bowl, and arrived Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, Fla., for five days of practices and events leading up to the game at 1 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Mountain) Saturday.
The game will be attended by professional scouts of every professional team of every professional league.
While at UNC, Walker broke the school single season and career records for receptions with 84 and 178, respectively, both records that were previously held by current San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson. Walker finished his career with five games of at least 100 yards, including a 315-yard performance against North Dakota that broke both the school and Big Sky Conference single game receiving yards record and finished the season ranked seventh in the nation in both receptions per game (7.64) and receiving yards per game (106.45). He was named to the Big Sky All-Conference Second Team and is nominated for National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter honors
Walker has received the confidence of head coach Earnest Collins Jr. that Walker could play professionally.
"He's a little guy, but he's got the biggest heart," Collins said after the team's final game of the season. "And if somebody doesn't give him a chance to play football at the next level, they're nuts."
Check The Mirror's website for updates and UNC's athletic website for a blog Walker will do about his experiences.
