Signing Day Gems

Hey Eag fans.

MSU fan here just checking out the spoils from the rest of the big sky. Who would you say are the top 3-5 gems in this class? Also if you could link video that would be great.

Bobcat Nation is giddy with MSU's signing class (as is the case every year). Here's my opinion of MSU's top signees.

1. Garrett Marino, DL, 6-2, 274, Mission Viejo, CA (4-star)
All state Division I. ESPN 4-star

2. WaWa Leota, DT, 6-1, 286, Euless, TX (Tyler JC)
District 6-5A All Purpose Athlete (Sr.). All district as soph. and junior.

3. Eric Prevost, LB, 6-1, 215, Covina, CA
Sierra League POY and San Gabriel Valley Tribune Def. POY.

4. Curtis Amos, TE, 6-2, 225, Burleson, TX (3-star)
First team all district as junior and senior. No. 10 ranked TE in Texas.

5. Grant Collins, LB, 6-4, 215, Bozeman, MT
Two time first team all state and AA defensive MVP.

Hello, thanks for dropping in and welcome.

I don't want to speak for everyone and make the entire list, but two athletes I think everyone can agree on are Conner Baumann and Terence Grady.

Conner Baumann (2-star scout.com) is a 230 pound, hard hitting, versatile athlete. The thing that really stands out to me is the incredible speed that doesn't seem to equate to his build. The kid is fast, strong, and has good vision. His highlights mostly show him on offense, but personally I think we are looking for him on defense. A 230+ pound back doesn't usually fit our style, and with his speed he would be great at pursuit and laying a licking. His speed is really highlighted at 5:50, when he pursues a turnover.

Terence Grady is the tall and elusive wide receiver that fits Eastern Washington's offense. This wide receiver was rated the #1 wide receiver in Washington State for a reason. He has great hands, and will be a very dangerous open field threat. Any jump ball will be in Terence Grady's favor.

Yeah...I guess what I was really wondering is who is the next receiver that's going to give the big sky conference fits for the next 4 years. Good lord you guys have had a ton of weapons.

The Baumann looks like a player. It will be interesting to see if he ends up as a LB or DE.

MSU ended up signing 23 players. 20 high school and 3 transfers. The Marino guy was one of Arizona State's top rated recruits last year, but wasn't quite eligible. He basically took a grayshirt, but was late getting everything in. Sounds like he chose Montana State over a late offer from Rosebowl champion Michigan State. His highlight film is unlike anything I've ever seen before.

WaWa Leota had offers from numerous big time programs (including Auburn) as a Fullback. He wanted to play defense, and his two cousins Na'a and Toti Moeakiola are at MSU.

Prevost had crazy stats this year 128 tackles, 22 sacks, 20 additional tackles for loss. He had late interest from Fresno State and a few others, but stayed firm with MSU. It sounds like the reason wasn't recruited sooner by bigger programs is that during his senior year he played DT, DE, LB, and S. There wasn't any significant film of him playing any one position.

Curtis Amos was early commit and a guy I thought was going to be our star signee. He's a big, fast, fluid athlete. He's built like a DE, but has solid hands and runs good routes.

Grant Collins is a hometown kid who shared state defensive MVP honors with teammate and UW commit, Will Dissly. Collins' dad, Shane, played at Arizona State and for the Washington Redskins. Collins chose MSU over a couple low level FBS schools and a preferred walk-on spot at UW.

Also, I was wondering what source has Curtis Amos as a three star? I'm not saying he isn't good, but while searching for a 40 time, I kept ending up with results such as these.

I have no idea...I just copied and pasted from recruiting list on Bobcatnation. The 3-star rating could have come from his hometown paper, or maybe espn dropped all three stars after they found out he signed at MSU.

I really have no idea.

EDIT: He was ranked as a three-star recruit by 24/7 Sports and received interest from Big XII schools Texas and Baylor. Texas Southern, Houston, Louisiana Tech and Abilene Christian also reached out. After spending Thursday and Friday in Bozeman, he knew he wanted to be a Bobcat.

Totally see that happening
Sorry couldn't resist . . .GO EAGS!

VLG, I've seen the vid on Garrett Marino and that guy is scary...he's from another planet. Hope since he is alienistic he will not be able to qualify.

One man does not a team make...

As far as gems, I think that really takes a couple years to figure out. There are a lot of really impressive recruits in this class. Reilly Hennessey, WA State Gatorade player of the year and a 3 star recruit on some recruiting sites...the Webster twins...I mean, take your pick. This is one of the better classes in FCS, IMO, but almost more important is how well the players you recruit fit into your specific system. EWU has recruited so freak athletes in the past, but overall the coaches do a great job of finding kids that fit well into their system.

Don't worry MSU fan, we will continue to dominate the Big Sky for years to come. :thumb: :kisswink:
