Sirens lose home game! Gasp!

The Sacramento Sirens are in danger of missing the playoffs after a heartwrenching 21-20 defeat at the hands of the arch-rival Seattle Majestics Saturday night. The Pacific Northwest Division leaders dominated the first half, but almost choked the game away at the end. Fullback Jennie Ann Quan (I think) scored with 1:50 left, leaving the entire stadium smelling overtime. Until rookie kicker Jennifer Bloom's PAT attempt sailed wide left, that is. The obligatory onside kick went too far and was recovered by Seattle. The Majestics failed to run out the clock and had to punt, giving Sacramento one last chance. Wingback Ashlee Sharp busted loose over right end on a huge scamper that was aided by an illegal hit out of bounds with less than a minute left. Unfortunately, at that point, quarterback Chantelle Powers was sacked and one more run failed, closing out the gut-wrencher.

Following a bye next week, the Sirens play at Corvallis on 30 May. They close out the regular season 13 Jun against the Pacific Southwest Division leading LA Amazons, who are undefeated. The best shot at the post season now appears to be a wild card. Sac is a half-game back of the Kansas City Tribe, but the Tier I and Tier II scheduling may play into things. Sac is 2-2 in Tier I games, while KC is 1-1.
