Great work, guys!

WR Parker Clayton (Fr), RB Ja'Narrick James (Sr), DB Abel Ordaz (Jr), LBer Kevin McKinney (Sr), DL Blake Nydam (Sr), and TE Calvin Martin (Sr) all got schollies in return for hard work making the program better.

Very happy for those kids!

But a serious question. How do those scholarships suddenly become available?

I mean, due to graduation and other factors, teams only have so many scholly’s to offer during each signing period. Typically, most programs sign as many players as they can using up all their available scholarships.

So how did as many as 6 become available?

Unless the rules were recently changed, the coaches can split 63 scholarships between 85 players. So I'm guessing there were a few scholarships left to use and they were split up between these players. Pretty cool and a great incentive/motivator for current and future walk-ons.

So if I’m understanding correctly, up to 44 players could be on half scholarship? Essentially the 22 above and beyond the 63 divided among 44 players?

They may not have split all 22 but they could?

Thing is, the article isn’t positioning it as partial scholarships. Which is what adds to the confusion.
