Sltrib Weber out of their league recruiting Loveridge

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL... The trib printed the same story it printed two days ago, except it added that last paragraph probably because a number of Weber State fans complained. What I don't understand is how the Trib actually thinks the WAC is a major conference. Lets look ahead to June 2012 when the WAC will be considered weak at best. The Sky is a very stable and solid conference and will only get better while the WAC will continue to slip. Hell!! The Trib thinks it's big news that UVU is being considered. That is proof how low the WAC has fallen, if it (WAC) is thinking of adding the mighty Wolverines then something is seriously wrong with the WAC. I hope that USU can get out of that sinking ship soon. We all know Idalol is on its way back to the Sky.

Seriously...what is better competition?

Weber State
Montana
Montana State
Eastern Washington
Northern Arizona

or

Lamar (they wont join, would be a suicidal decision)
Texas State
Denver
San Jose
La Tech

For the Vadal fans who might look at this Big Sky Flagship institutions:
Montana
Montana State
North Dakota

Highly regarded academic institutions:
Cal Davis
Cal Poly
Northern Arizona
Portland State

Solid State/Regional Schools:
Weber State (Has top 10 national programs)
Idaho State (considered far better than BSU and BYU-I. Doesn't ISU share flagship recognition with UI?)
Sacramento State (one of the top California State system schools)
Northern Colorado
Eastern Washington
Southern Utah

2012 WAC:
Flagship Institutions:
Idaho

Highly Regarded Academic Institutions:
Denver

Solid State Schools:
Utah State (Excellent academics and highly respected Land Grant institution)
New Mexico State (Kinda like USU, but not nearly as good)
San Jose State (Okay, but surrounded by far better institutions)
Texas San Antonio (Texas doesn't believe in education)
Texas State (I thought Troy was going to buy it and make it into a For-profit school)

I'm just pointing out that the WAC having better academics argument is false. Oh, final point, regional rivalries. UI has strong rivalries with UM, MSU, Eastern, and ISU...They only have one winning record against Weber State in football. Whereas, they don't have any long standing rivals in the current WAC. I know USU doesn't see them as a rival.

I guess the Trib didn't read the DNews article.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705373958/Jordan-Loveridge-receiving-interest-from-WSU-BYU-Utah.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

“I remember when Weber State offered me during my sophomore year, and it was really a bit overwhelming to me at the time,” he said. “It was exciting for sure to know that a college program believed in me enough to offer me a scholarship.”

Loveridge immediately liked Weber’s head coach Randy Rahe and his staff. He’s since visited the school often on unofficial visits.

“I really like it up there,” he said. “They were the first school to believe in me, and gave me my first offer, so I love that about them. The coaches really have a good thing going up there, and it’s a school I’m strongly considering.”

"The only Division I program in Utah that has not yet offered Loveridge is Southern Utah University. That said, I think Big Sky-level schools may be a bit out of their league when it comes to Loveridge. No knock on their programs, but he has the chance to be a prized recruit at a higher level."

i agree with this article. he shouldn't consider weber since the writer doesn't care for the lowly wsu. also, he has the chance to be a prized recruit at a higher level such as byu and utah state.

why would he come to weber when he could go to those schools? byu has 2 ncaa tourney wins since 1993! usu has 1! weber has .... oh, just as many as the higher level byu, 2!

we can't recruit against those schools with their rich ncaa tourney runs. :notworthy: :coffee: :twocents: :ohno:

You must understand that the Trib is THE U of U paper. For the most part they think that they are above sports, in general, and do a really poor job of covering local, or any other, sports. Their blogs are the only interesting thing left and even they slant toward the Uties. The Deseret News is the BYU paper and they make no bones about it. The one thing that they do is cover local sports a bit better. The Standard, well, they will print whatever the SID gives them, but they won't go out of their way to find a story, unless they think they have some dirt on someone. I read them all. Sometimes I wish we had a homer paper like the Trib or D News. If we did, we would probably see three times the number of stories on WSU.

Where is Wildcat?? This is absolute proof of how the Salt Lake media views Weber State.

You called?

Its Proof of the bias for certain schools in Utah from the SL media.

Yup. And I cant stand it, I cant wait till Weber kicks every one of thier trashes this next year, and beats USU in football then we'll see what the SL trip thinks.

That was low of Oram to write that, but I'm pretty sure he's a BYU homer like Jay Drew. Reality is that Loveridge will decide between BYU and USU. BYU is the favorite right now. Loveridge likes BYU. Playing with Davis and Bair is the pull for USU.

This is the thing though. It looks like Loveridge has been working on his 3 skills, and it's showing. He has to keep developing those though unless he grows another inch or two. If he doesn't, he won't make much of an impact at the D1 level as a 4 at 6'5"/6'6". In hs right now he's a man among boys. A 6'6" kid who's around 215 and who can dominate even taller players because they haven't developed yet. He won't be able to do that in D1 ball. Those 6'8" and bigger kids, who were behind in hs, will be catching up and have a size and strength advantage.

I don't know why everyone would assume this is between BYU and USU (even though I share this assumption). The latest report, D-News leans heavily toward BYU, cited a high school kid who has verballed to USU. He has a bias. I would think that Utah, with a new coach, has a lot of pull and would be a great opportunity for him (PAC12). I hate to break it to all of us. BYU, USU, Weber, and CSU's conferences cannot compare with a BCS conference playing against traditionally strong programs like UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, and CAL. Also, even though they have been dipping recently, the pukes have a storied tradition.

Finally, Weber shouldn't be overlooked. Weber has been courting him for two years, and is on the rise. The Dee is a great facility and the Sky is a solid conferene. I hate to break this to you George, but USU isn't in the greatest conference anymore. I hope the Aggies can get into the MWC, but after last Summer...I'm not holding my breath for them. But if he doesn't come to Weber, I'll be alright with it. Weber will find another gem somewhere else.

Everyone doesn't assume it's between BYU and USU. Only those who follow recruiting closely do. Anyway, yes, I know, as does everyone who reads and follows college athletics, that the WAC is hurting. However, as much as you'd like to think otherwise, as of now, it's still much better than the Big Sky. So let's not keep harping on that, shall we, because you have no argument there as long as your conference is worse. Look, recruiting is to the point where players are seen not only during the school year, but during the spring/summer AAU season. Coaches, recruiting analysts, sports writers..........numerous people who have coached, watched, evaluated players for decades see them and know the level they can perform at. Do they miss some? Yes. Do some kids develop late or fall through the cracks? Yes. But the majority of the time you get Big Sky level players, and we get a higher level of recruit. Do we get MWC level? No, not in the majority of cases. Like Morrill said, MWC teams can recruit a player that won't even respond to us. But we do not lose recruiting battles to you. That's just how it is. Going back to the situation of the WAC. It hasn't hurt our recruiting at all for 2012. Intermountain Hoops, Dave Hammer, who's been coaching for years, just stated after watching Marcel Davis at the USU tourny that Davis and Loveridge are right there as the best 2 players in Utah HS ball class of 2012. Quincy Bair is #3. Casey Oliverson #4. We have 3 of the 4 with a legit chance at all 4. We have the best player in Montana class of 2012. One of the best players in Colorado class of 2012. Oh, you'll say it doesn't mean a thing, but we both know you'd love to have any one of them and would be on here posting about it. Another thing. We have the 4A MVP from last year walking on. You used a scholarship on the 3A MVP. That's the difference.

george aka SeldomSeenSmith: Really? I think you have confused the WAC of yesterday with the WAC of the future.
As Montana and MSU have told the WAC to get lost, and Boise St.,Fresno St., Hawaii, and Nevada are replaced by Tex State, UT San Antonio, Denver and Seattle the WAC is no better than the Big Sky. Reality is a biitch SSS, time to face it, as it affects your recruiting going forward.

I'm sure it's all you can handle to keep your tiny little Aggie boner down as the WAC has chosen Seattle over UVU. The fact the Wolverines were even in serious contention had you sweatin like Norvell Arnold getting busted in a crack house, or Kyisean Reed taking a written exam. The WAC is a joke and a complete laughing stock.........

Say what you want about the WAC and Big Sky, but as a fan I would take the stability and future of the Big Sky over the crumbling WAC any day. I will be the first to agree that the WAC has traditionally been a stronger basketball league. But with the schools it is losing and the schools it is replacing them with, the future of the WAC is not very bright. Even a biased Aggie fan would have to admit that. Two things really sum up the WAC. First, Montana's decline of the WAC's invitation. Montana, a charter member of the Big Sky (nearly 50 years in the same conference, imagine that), wants nothing to do with the WAC. And second, your own USU doesn't even want to be in the WAC. Face it, the WAC is a joke. And I still don't know why you get so damn excited and boastful about Utah and Montana recruits. :jack:

Here is a thread started by an Aggie on their site 30 minutes ago about their horrid conference situation

At least he's being honest..........lol
Grief

by Empire of Dirt » 32 minutes ago
It is theorized that there are five stages of grief. These are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Where do you fall in this with regard to our conference situation?

I think that a lot of people have made it to acceptance. I read things like:

“The new WAC will not be all that bad.”
“Maybe this will be good for our Football team.”
“ UTSA has a lot of potential”

I think that I am still at the bargaining stage.

“Oh please god, is there any way that we can get into the MWC? Is there anyone that knows anyone with any pull whatsoever that can get us in? What can be done to get us out of the abysmal mess that we are in? Is there any chance that we hear anything in the next 16 days?

What say you?

I'm not only boastful about Utah recruits, but Idaho and Wyoming recruits as well. So let's just talk facts. Our Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming recruits, like Tai Wesley, Nate Bendall, Brian Green, Nate Harris, Jared Quayle, Tyler Newbold, Gary Wilkinson, Jaycee Carroll, and Spencer Nelson have owned you. We've won 10 of the last 11. Since we joined the WAC we've dominated you, which shows the difference in recruiting between our years in the Big West and WAC. Quayle was headed your way, but we offered him in March, and he went with us.

Loveridge was on your campus for an unofficial yesterday, but you have no chance. I know, you don't really want him.

Let me add this. We'll beat you in football this year by 21, and it won't be that close.
