The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that the Utah Legislature is going to give Weber State a "similar boost" to the $1.5 million it gave Utah State last year to implement full Cost of attendance. Are you guys planning to follow suit? If so, that will really throw a wrench into the competitive balance in the league. Sorry I can't link the story here, but it was in the Trib article about the Legislature ordering an audit of the Utah program.

There was an article in 2015 after USU had that "boost" pass in which Jerry Bovee was quoted as saying that he was planning on having full cost of attendance for at least men and women basketball. He wasn't sure how he was going to do it, but he was going to look into similar options that USU had used. I apologize also for not having a link to the article. I would assume with more funds, the money will go to cost of tuition for more sports.

I am disappointed; however. I thought what USU did (through the Cache Valley Legislator) was dirty and I really didn't want to see Weber follow a similar path. I don't understand why Utah is using tax payer money to pay full cost of tuition to student athletes (many of which come from out of state) while their K-12 teachers are underpaid and have the largest class sizes in the country. It's all about priorities, I guess.

Actually I heard them talk about this on the radio, as I understand it the money will be split between WSU and SUU. I'm pretty sure it won't be a 50/50 split though, they both submitted proposals on amount needed and the purpose it would go towards. WSU is planning on using the funds to pay for the athletes summer tuition, apparently athletic scholarships are only for fall/spring semesters.
