So...what happened?

I ask this question because I want to know why we are so bad...consistently. Two and three years ago we had back-to-back winning seasons, and it looked like the program was gaining momentum. We were one game away from the playoffs for the first time since our D2 days.

So...why couldn't we keep the momentum? Why couldn't we recruit? Is the talent pool in Colorado that bad? CU and CSU are both down just like UNC is. The school's facilities need a major uplift, but out budget is in the middle of the conference. Money shouldn't be that big of an excuse. There is something off about this staff. They are unable to recruit good BSC talent for some reason. Collins did not keep his goal in keeping FCS talent in state. Something is wrong with this staff...but what is it?

One of those years was literally carried by a current NFL quarterback and only got 6-5 out of it. Why couldn't of we pushed for a playoff spot with a person like Sloter?

Hint: it's the coach

It’s absolutely Collins’ and Boyer’s poor decision making. You mentioned one glaring poor decision. Kyle Sloter came off the bench as QB2 to lead the team to a winning season, after getting primarily 2nd team reps and little practice During Spring. Why was wasn’t Sloter QB1??? Imagine what he could have done if he had been allowed to prepare? NFL scouts saw what Boyer couldn’t.

1. We should not have moved up

2. Why would you play in Greeley if you grew up in Colorado, when you could storm the field in any other big sky school (Montana, Eastern Wash) where more than 2,000 people would show up on game day and the students would attend the games. (Student Section is a joke when UNC is on tv)

3. Our offense is way to pass heavy and without a running game defenses never have to defend anything except the pass.

4. Coaching and apathy of the administration to hold a coach accountable to his W's and L's

5. Any state that has an NFL team (Broncos) is never going to care about a mediocre FCS or FBS team. It's not like CSU has been packing in the fans to their stadium, the Broncos just had their 400th sellout.

Greeley has a population of 105,000 people and yet nobody comes to Bears games. (maybe a problem on the universities part in promoting)

Other teams with the same problems have been more successful than us though so...I don't know

Go UNC Basketball!

A few I agree and some points I disagree.

1. We should not have moved up? The other athletic programs have succeeded at UNC. This includes men's and women's bball, volleyball, and wrestling.

2. We do need to address the attendance problem, but it is not just a UNC problem, especially with student attendance. That's an issue nation-wide.

3. Agree

4. Agree

5. Agree, but we can find our niche. With a winning program and a facility uplift at Nottingham, I can see us averaging about 10K. A better east-stands and lights at Nottingham for night games will solve this.

1. Agreed, All other sports have ended up just fine.

2. Other thank like 4 big sky schools, they all lack attendance

5. Lights would be awesome.

Attendance comes with winning . It does not matter what division we are in. I have seen Nottingham packed on both sides of the field. And I dont think money is necessarily the issue. Look at all the big time programs that have tons of money and still cant win. I say it comes down to coaching. You have to be able to recruit and bring kids together. But we just cant keep doing the same thing over and over again for gods sake.

The Joe Glenn\Kay Dalton teams made up of mostly Colorado kids could have competed in the Big Sky better than these teams. There is no reason why we shoudnt at least be a middle of the pack team in the conference.

Yes they did, and without half the budget we have now. The bottom line is this staff has not been able to recruit solid/good linemen and have maybe put too much of an emphasis on the skill positions. This year we have the worst stats for sacks against and by. This means our offensive and defensive linemen are not FCS talent. This has been going on for years. How does Wikre still have a job? Does the staff just have a bad evaluation system for recruits?

The bigger question is do we have an A.D. that cares. In my job, the head of our organization (with over 4,000 employees) writes a blog providing updates on our accomplishments and our path forward. It would be great if we could see something like that from Dunn. I live in Maryland now so maybe Dunn is doing this and is out in the community drumming up support and I just dont see it.

I think Dunn is a wrestling guy and doesn't have football as his main priority. At least we have good coaches in our basketball programs. I have seen this in my years of high school teaching and coaching that when you have a former wrestling guy as athletic director their heart is in in wrestling not football and visa versa, football guys don't really care much for what goes on in the wrestling program. We always had big disputes on how to split up our athletic budgets. l was in tennis and cross country and didn't get much help from either side. Thats just the way it is.

UC Davis got a new coach 2 years ago and he took that team from 10th to 2nd. Davis had 2 losses, Eastern Washington and STANFORD!!!! The Davis coach had basically the same to work with as Collins. The difference coaching and leadership.

There is just need to win in college football in Colorado. Outside of the Broncos and some CU Buffs fans, college football for whatever reason is not a big deal in Colorado. It is not Texas, not Montana, not North Dakota. There is just too many other interests. The only "pressure" we can give the athletic department at UNC is to contact Dunn, stop giving money and stop going to games. I hate doing the later because that money goes to scholarships for the students, and it is not their fault the program has slipped (although most are not FCS talent). They're playing their hardest.
