The team is still struggling with offense. Most of the USU game was played on the Bengal end of the field and the defense did a fantastic job of fending off attack after attack. It says a great deal about the back line that USU got off as few shots as they did. ISU must start putting more pressure on the opposing defenses.
As a example of our lack of attack, Karissa Henage-Fisher posted the lone goal against USU and she plays center defense. In fact, she is now tied for second place on the team in career goals, and she has never played anywhere but the back line. We desperately need to start getting more goals out of our forwards and midfielders. ISU has not lost a game this year where they were ablt to post two goals.
Kudos to Kacey Ball. She was the brightest spot on the offense for the game. She put tremendous pressure on the Aggies throughout the game. The rest of the offense seemed a little tentative in the game. Ashley Jones, Lauren Ryan and AnnaMarie Hofstetter had a tough time controlling the USU midfield. These players have fantastic talent and can play with anyone when they are on the top of their game. They have combined to score 8 of the 12 Bengal goals and we will continue to need them to find the back of the net.
We also need to have our front line put more pressure on the opposition. Kacey Ball, Rachel Strawn and Megan Stainbrook have each scored a goal this season and they play well together up top. Almost all of the 13 corner kicks ISU earned against UVU was due to the intense pressure these three put on the Wolverine defense. We need that type of intensity every game.
Montana is going to be a tough home game. ISU has a chance to prove themselves at home against a team that took 13th ranked BYU to a close 2-1 finale. The Bengals have to find their fire if we are going anywhere in the Big Sky this year.
